    Default gz20 air con?????????

    hi guys
the air con in my 89 soarer is cool but not cold. the electric fan on the radiator and the fan on the condensor do not work when the air con is switched or off, i can however get them to work by putting power to them so i know they work, i think the relays for them are under the fuse box in the engine bay?? any ideas?? why wont they work and is there a way to run a diagnostic on th gz20 air con, like i think the jzz30's do?? the air con doesnt get colder when i ake the condensor fan run?

any help appreciated its getting bloody hot

    cheers

Run the car with the air con on full, check the outer pulley of the a/c compressor to make sure that its turning, if its not ur a/c isnt working at all, if it is have a look at the sight glass on the dryer which is a alimium cyninder, to find it trace the a/c lines from out of the condensor (a/c's radiator at the front of the car) and youl find it, look inside the sight glass on the top of the cylinder if you see bubbles ur low on refigerant, if its clear and the compressor is working the a/c is fully charged

yeah the compressor is workin, it is whit and you can see it so it is low on refridgerant but surely the fans should still work

but if the aircon isnt getting cold, the switch that operates the fan wont turn on, Its weird how it works but just trust me. My ma61 used to do exactly the same thing, until i got it gassed and then the aircon and the fan worked fine.

On some cars the condensor fans are only a backup and kick in when the refrigerant pressures are excessive.
If the soarer has a large main fan and two small condensor fans (pretty sure the JZA70 has a large hydraulic fan and additional condensor fans) than this is the most likely scenario.

If you can find the pressure switches on the A/C lines, find the one that could run those fans (ie the one that doesn't shut off the A/C when you unplug it) and try bridging the connector - the condensor fans should come on with the a/c on.

^exacly, get ur air conditioning looked at at the electric fan will start with a full charge of refigerant

youre viscus fan will be doing most of the work and the electric ones are just a back up item like it was said when the refigerant pressures get high

yeah the gz20 have a viscous mechanical on the radiator and a little electric one on the radiator and a big electric one on the condensor.ok guys cheers for all that, ill get it gassed and see what happens, i didnt realise that the fans were operated from the refrigerant pipes. my commodore it just used to be when the a/c was turned on the condensor fan came on with it no matter what anything else was doing.

just out of curiosity does the gz20 have a diagnostic like the jzz30??

air con got regassed today, now its beautiful. and yes unlike many aussie manufactured cars the condensor fans on many jap cars only run when the pressure in the lines gets excessive, for anyone wanting to know, there is a two pin plug that you can jump to test the fans are working it runs from under the charcoal canister and the plug id about between the suspension part of the chassis and the inlet manifold in the engine bay,

    thanks for all the help

    toymods does it again
