I've bought a ball bearing boost controller valve that im planning on putting on with a valve that will stay shut untill it reaches a set psi. Forget the name of the valve, ill have to go find the name of it again.
I'll let you guys know what its like when i get it running. Might not be for a few weeks though. Shims have started getting worse...

two guages, one in BAR, the other a dodgy amtometer one in PSI.

the one in BAR was slightly higher, i think it was an older defi, and it had a bit of wear on it, so it could be off, who knows.

definatley didnt hit boost cut, didnt go anywhere either. (stock auto FTMFL)

meh, maybe i just had a freak of nature.

oh, and on topic, i bought a Jaycar EBC + hand controller + R32 GTR solonoid for $150.

Havent set it up yet, planning on doing so soon though, the guy that i bought it off was using it on an RB20 180sx, he swore by it, the only reason he changed was because he was switching out his entire turbo setup.

Mines lasted well over 2 years on 10ish psi. Just depends on how you take care of the motor I reckons.

more importantly, how the person that owned it before you has taken care of it.

mine ran ok on 10 psi, then went back to stock, used water from day one though, before i boosted it, just got worse and worse.

i bashed it up to 12 ish after it was well gone, managed to screech the tyres for the first time ever in a factory auto off the line.

    7M powah!

then it was pulled and replaced with 1J.

    For those that were interested:

The ball bearing valve i bought was a TurboTech item off eBay. Clicky Clicky

I've had it running for about 2 weeks now and its fantastic. No boost spike whatsoever and becuase its a ball bearing valve and dosn't open untill set psi level is reached, it has given me some more low-end torque and power!

    Boost reached in gears before:
    1st: 0
    2nd: 5
    3rd: 9
    4th: 9

    And after install:
    1st: 3
    2nd: 6.5
    3rd: 9
    4th: 9

You can easily feel the low-end difference driving around town. I've since wound it in a little further and i see 7psi in 2nd but have yet to test 3rd and 4th. Brilliant piece of gaderty for $32.40, just brilliant.

Whats the go with the low boost in 1st and 2nd? evan when my car was on stock boost, it used to basically hold at 6ish psi through all gears... It would fade a bit at the top end though...

My gearing is the issue in low gear boost, there's not enough load on the engine causing low boost.

At the moment i'm running a Celica W55 gearbox and my MA61 3.9 LSD gearbox. Becuase of the celica gearbox with its higher ratios, it puts less of an strain on the engine compared to the W58 gearbox with its lower ratios. I have a 3.583 lsd diff to rebuild that should hopefully give me full boost back in second gear and a decent amount in first.
