I reccomend getting a plumb back type. From what i have seen on most cars it more often placed closest to the throttle body as possible, however with a plumb back you will need to pipe something to the inlet before the turbo.

Surely google could help you out here.

If you know what sort of valve you are going to use . you can atleast weld the fitting in to the pipe to suit the valve so that when you are ready to buy a blow off valve you have a place for it to go.

cuzzo, are you saying go plumb back to keep the ecu happy, or for legalities?
    because...
i was talking my engine shop the other day re: bov's
and because i have a pod filter and then bugger all pipe work going into my turbo the bloke said its pointless using a plumb back bov coz it will still be defectable due to noise.
and that apparently is the only reason for defecting bov's coz of the noise. as no part of the car is allowed to exceed 85 db.
a hks ssqv bov is ~121 db
and all other atmo bovs are 100+
a plumback wont be much quieter unless the factory air box is still be used...
rollsy, why do you plan on using a bov? for the cool factor or for some logical reason? they make bugger all performance difference.
im using one simply because it breaks my LPG stuff without one..

mate you can pick up plumb back BOVs for very cheap, less then 100$ brand new, easy to mount if you really want one, if the motor runs stock ECU, and AFM you will want to run it plumb back, if not and you run an aftermarket setup go ahead with a ATMO valve if you really want to, jsut be careful of the defect for it..

i was more refering to legalities/engineering. But it does make sense that its pointless with a pod filter cause the noise would come straight out the pod.

my father and i circuit race a 13B turbo rx7. We have done many years of developing and one aspect was the position of the blow off valve as you chase every little advantage.
The 'theory' to having it closer to the throttle body is to release that pressure as soon as it rebounds off the throttle closure which can pulsate back through IC piping. We did'nt find any difference to performance with changing locations so as we have 2 connections, we just run two BOV''s, 1 next to throttle body, one near turbo.
If you are on a budget and dont care to much on appearance, i recommend a Bosch BOV, we run this in our race car and they are fine. They just come in black, no bling.

But it does make sense that its pointless with a pod filter cause the noise would come straight out the pod.
The other aspect to consider when discussing the legalities of a plumb back BOV is that if (as most factory spec cars do that haven't been tinkered with) your crank case vents into the intake then when your BOV vents, an ever so small amount of crank case gas will also be expelled to atmosphere if it is not plumbed back.

So it's not just about the noise with the BOV

But if your running a pod with no cover and crank case venting to atmosphere then why be concerned about the legalities of the BOV

Oh and for $45 or so those Bosch BOVs do the job.

    thanks for the replies guys..
well i do have a pod filter and short piping from pod to turbo's.. im also not concerned about whether it is legal as most of the vehicle is illegal..
im also on an extremely tight budget..
    so wats the verdict?
non-plum back cheap chinese crap one?
    cheers
