Options are to either get yours rebuilt or to buy another healthier specimen.

Obviously your budget, how long you wish to retain your car and whether it's worth spending that sort of money on your car are considerations.

By the sounds of it, looks like a good runner is the best option. A couple of helpful Toymodders and a barbie will probably get the job done over the weekend.

OK - so Ive been doing some thinking...I think replace might be my easiest route out for now...So can someone point me towards any threads listing possible conversions for a TA22? I am thinking something a little newer/more powerful possibly...

An engine conversion will be not be cheaper, easier or quicker than fixing the engine that is already in there I'm afraid.

Ive had an offer of a 2t engine - its cheap..But I still want the 2tgeu...Im guessing these arent easy to come by second hand?? (Like if I wanted a running one until I could afford a proper rebuild)

CVAP (Toymods Forum Sponser) has 2x 2T-Gs (hich-comp carbie) in stock (Link) at $1k and $1.2k and both look to be in awesome condition, he use to have a 2T-GEU also, but he may have sold this one by now...

Yeah CVAP emailed me - thats the one I was talking about - Im not seeing a 2tgeu on his site though. I dont really want to step down to the 2t at this stage...Im googling away here trying to see what I can find for sale elsewhere all over Aus atm.
I might end up buying a second car in the end, a new bonnet wouldnt go astray and my loom is pretty hacked up...

Don't you run carbies on your 2T-GEU presently anyway?

Because a 2T-G should have more power than a 2T-GEU with Carbies...

    Yeah?
Well, I was planning to convert and ditch the carbs but given the amount of more urgent car repairs I guess that isnt going to happen for some time anyway now!
I could just store the 2tgeu I guess.
Im waiting to hear back from CVAP as I enquired about freight, Im a long way away here!

Let me know what they quote you, if it's alot, and your looking at buying before Christmas, I would be able to pick it up and deliver it to you (no charge) if your near Sydney as I'm driving there (in my ute) on the 23rd of Dec... Or if you're further North, I'm going up as far as Port Maquarie!

Don't know if this helps you, but as I said just let me know!

Now is the time to try a 'snake oil'.
Something/anything with claims like 'miracle' or 'rebuild in a can'. Nothing to lose.

Sorry to hear about your further troubles with the 22. It looked to be a nice example.

If your gunna throw in a 2t or 3t I'd only do it until you can afford another 2tg or a rebuild. The single cammers (is that a word?) don't really compare.

Pitty your not in vic. The classic celica club is pretty active down here. I'm sure we could have had the engine out bye now and more than likely a cheap replacement, of some sort, in.

    Good luck with it all.

My two cents - Buy one of the motors offered by our sponsors. Pick the best of the carbs, then sell the remaining parts to recoup your cash. This will probably be the cheapest way out as I see it. You will also get a guarrantee of sorts with the new motor. Otherwise, previos ideas such as the bbq and engine rebuild/install would be a productive way to -

    a) learn more about your motor/car
    b) meet fellow toymodders
    c) still be very cost effective and re-assuring as to the reliabilty of the fresh motor.

for reference - all parts of these motor can be purchased/found.

-bearings (main and big ends) - under $100
-pistons ($220 + cost of flycutting)
    -gasket set ($150)
    -head clean up($300-400)
    -machining - 200-300
Chains are cheap, guides are not. - Hopefully yours will still have alot of life left.

I think both options have around the same costs involved. One means more organising and time but would be worth it in the long run. The other means you may be able to drive your car sooner without hassles(but for an unknown period of time)
Assumption is the mother of all f**kups...
