Hey, can anyone tell me what the size of the gap between the points on a 4ac engine?

Most people on this forum weren't born when manufacturers stopped using points!
Have a look around engine bay as some cars had stickers giving points gap. Also check owners manual if you have one.

    Hi,

Yes, look at the sticker on the air filter on the 4AC engine (assuming you still have the factory air filter) as it's there. Also I think there's a sticker on the firewall with the same information - well there is on the AE71.

If you still can't find it I'll look under the bonnet tomorrow and give you the info.

Yeah, i know they're outdated crap just like my whole engine. That's why i couldn't find any info about it on the net and i'm not paying 60 bucks for 1/5 of a manual from toyota. (yet)

Well i found the sticker on the air cleaner but it's long since faded and any information it held is lost. there's no other stickers around the engine bay on my car either.

And thanks alot River, if you could have a look that would be great.

    Try 0.017".
That was always really close when I used to muck around with 3K's, should be much the same for most four cylinder engines.

    for a 4k,
    dwell is 46
or 0.45mm which is 17 to 18 thou

doesnt hurt to open them up a little bit more than that either.

In the dim, dark, distant past when I used to mess with such things, then 17 used to do the job reasonably. When I say reasonably, it's all relative, as point ignition NEVER does a good job!

Heh, the only reason i use 0.015 is i lost the 0.018 feeler gauge in my set.

A wire gauge makes it easier & more accurate then the usual strip.
Fishing/bait & tackle shops have leader wire in almost every size you'll ever need, in an amount you'll never use up, and it'll come in handy for other things.
    I like .015in.
