River will suggest that a true man will only own an 18rg.

I tend to disbelieve his dribble, he is getting on a bit and becoming increasingly senile.

BAH! pass river a napkin he has lost control of his saliva again!

River will suggest that a true man will only own an 18rg.
I did some research on the 18RG after hearing River rave on so much about it as the greatest donk ever to be slung between the chassis rails of a Toyota.

It turns out the engine was actually sold as the 18. The RG was added later on after the engine had been in use for a number of years. The RG actually is nothing to do with Toyotas engine coding system, the RG actually stems from early owners cries of "Arrrhhh geeee......".

The engine had such a roar inside the cabin that most owners girlfriends would get out of the car when it pulled up to a stop simply because the noise was so loud that a pleasent conversation could not be maintained. As the young lady would wander off to find a new young man (preferably driving something classy like a Renault 10) the male owner of the "18" powered Toyota would sigh "Aarrrrhhh geeee not again".

The almighty sigh could often be heard as owners of the "18" were be blown away by the local Hemi when racing for pink slips "......arrrhhhh geeeee but it's a twin cam!! I shoulda won!!!"

The same cry could be heard when owners had to pay for the twin carbs to be tuned by the local carby guru ".....arrrhhh geeee I only got them tuned 6 weeks ago".

Hence the 18 arrrh geeeee was born. Now known as the 18RG in most technical papers.

Hi, my name is Wayne, I currently drive a lightning fast (cough) 5ME MA61, but will soon drive a 2jz MA61 built by TMD Engine Conversions (Teh Massif Dong), the paint is nearly dry.
My two son's also have MA61's (thats how old I am) that makes four in the driveway, it's good to have spare parts on hand if I have a prang.
I too will be a member soon.

    See you on the forum.

Hi, I'm Brad (who would have guessed that ). I drive a V6 4runner and have a KE30 in the garage awaiting the completion of it's 4AGE transplant.

I also spend too much time working on other peoples cars, in fact I probably wont have time to touch the rolla until maybe march next year . According to my lovely wife it is a 10 year project anyway (another contender for Project Decade).

I look forward to learning a lot more on the new forums and hopefully helping out others when I can.

    Hi,

Yeah, I'm with the midget short-haired yokel on this one... dream on pump-boy. You are the destroyer of 18R-Gs, not the Master!

That's something that all Corolla drivers inspire to own.
