    Question Rebuilt C52 crunching 2nd & 3rd

Hey everyone, recently i got my c52 rebuilt for my ae112 7afe ( Bearings, syncs, seals, and a new mainshaft and crown) I installed it the other day, along with a new exedy clutch, and machined flywheel, put the listed 2L of 75-90semi synethic oil in.

The gearbox feels very stiff, and sometimes selecting gears can be a little hard, when in the high revs about 6000rpm when you try to change gears quick it will give a little crunch into second, sometimes it will bounce and miss second altogether, ocassionly crunches into 3rd aswell, since the rebuild it only has about 300kms on it, do the syncs need bedding in or anything?

Any ideas on where my problem lies? selectors mabye? where the slave cylinder presses the clutch fork its worn a little? or is it probly down to the people who rebuilt the gearbox?

Did you fill the oil up untill it started to come out the filler hole?

Possibly it will take more than just 2L.

The C52 doesnt have a filler hole, it has the drain plug, you fill it via the speedo hole, 1.9L is what they specify in the Lube guide For a 99-02 rolla, tho it says 94-99 C52's take 2.6L, Could there be a chance that the lube guide is refering to the 1zzfe engines and not the 7afe engines? cause why would the later model c52's o nthe ae112r's take 700ml less then the ae102 c52's?

thats weird cause on my ae82 c52 i have a filler hole and a drain hole. I just filled up about 2.4-6 litres and shifts heaps better now. Maybe the later ones are different.

My apologises, just looked theres a second plug on the front of the gearbox, inline with the front engine mount bracket, its not much higher then the drain plug, anyway i just put the oil in through the speedo hole, would that 700mls make a big diff?

    Im thinking it will.
I put in 2L originally and i had to get another bottle(thinking that it would take 2L) Didnt shift very well untill i filled it all the way up. Its just hard to fill it up through the filler hole you may need a pump.

mmmmmm Yeah the lube box states 2.6L for 94-99 7afes, then 1.9 for 99 onwards, i think when they say 99 onwards there refering to 1zzfes cause they were both in production around 2000ish, will go add 800mls more and see how we go.
Cheers guys will keep you updated

It sounds like you need to rebuild the gearbox again, but...

I don't really like expesive synthetic oils, as they may not be the right thickness. Maybe the oil is too thick. I always just use the recomended oil, which in this case is any GL-4 or GL-5 oil, I forgot the weight. Maybe 75w85 or something like that. If the oil is too thick or cold it will not change right.

Is your clutch releasing? Do you have trouble shifting from neutral to 1st when the car is stopped and engine running? Maybe a clutch problem. Or maybe there is air in the clutch line, blead it.

You will have to take the car back to whoever rebuilt the gearbox and let them drive it. Then they have to rebuilt it if its wrong.

Okay, think i have figured it out, the oil i put in was a Fuchs semi synthetic with friction modifyers, apparently theses prevent the syncs from bedding into the hub and so they dont operate proply, have got some penrite mineral based 80-85 GL4, will do a fresh refil, drive if for a week and see how we go.
