the whole box or just the controller though..

I'm talking about whether it's worth just getting the whole box done here or there.

Being one of the few that has adapted or used an auto behind a 1g, I will chip in with some help here. I am the one jamie was referring to that sent my 1g auto to Paul at KEAS to have pulled down and checked to see if it would do the job. Paul has built most of the jatco's behind australia's fastest VL's, and as far as I know the powerglides for the 3 fastest VL's in aus. His opinion was that there wasn't a chance in hell that the input shaft would be strong enough to handle ANY decent power at all, he was talking 250rwhp max.

Now I don't know if it is possible to just swap them with the 1j box or whatever, but this guy has a serious amount of technical knowledge about component strength and design, he makes numerous gearbox components, and also used to work for Hugo's I believe. If he says it won'ttake the power, I def believe him. Now this isn't to say what MV says is not true, as I'm almost certain that the 1j box and MS-75 both have different versions, that are obviously handling the power.

As an idea of cost, you can't adapt the 4 speed jatco, as the bell housing isn't deep enough, the 3 speed fits beautifully, and paul has now done 2, one for myself, and one for jamie. My box is about as awesome as they come, I honestly could not be happier, and is the one component in my car I have absolute faith in having no problems with. They are small, so tunnel size isn't an issue, and the 3 speed 350rwkw transbrakes box plus converter will set you back between 3500 and 4g with TCE converter, modified bellhousing and a transbraked 3 speed 350rwkw jatco with warrantee. Horses for coarses, some may say its not cheap, but its the one thing you'll never change again

    6BOOST

Oooh, and extra bonus being you get the development and knowledge from testing we did on my converter to build one for your 1g

I agree with everything 6boost has said, as I was really hoping he was gonna jump in here and fill everyone in.

So your all suggesting now jatco? MV suggested that the a340e was quite up to the task.

We are just going from experience. We have no real experience with the a340, but the jatco, 6boost has plenty.

I am sure MV can get the A340 to work well, and has also been proven, but along with that come the associated wiring, control box etc. And as JCMO said, wouldn't start with the 1g type. If the JZ or 7M can be bolted to the 1G bellhousing, it may just work ok.

And just to add, it seems as though the cost of the 2 boxes is also similar. So it just depends what you really want.

but if he's rebuilding it, wouldn't a 1g or jz/7m one result in the same thing anyway?

No idea really. That would be something only MV's would be able to answer sorry. I assume the internals are different between the 3 models (read stronger), but I cant say if they would be interchangable.

Let us know what you decide too. It seems there maybe a few others that are interested also.

    yeah
I'm swinging in between at the moment
but the fact that the a340e bolts onto the 1g, sorta makes me lean towards that.

But, how does one go about finding one of the said 'jatco's'?

If you get a Jatco built by Paul at KEAS, the box is included in the price.

There are a few cars that had Jatco transmissions in them. These include early datsuns (120y, 180b etc) and some mazdas too i believe. Don't let this concern you though, as like Kyle said, some of the fastest vl's in the country have one of these boxes, and also a handful of rotors.

Paul made the adapter bellhousing to fit the Jatco on 6boost's 1G, and currently is doing mine.

And KEAS is also located in Vic too.

You got to remember also when talking to particular 'performance' people. They have their opinions. Some like the c4, some like the powerglide, most say the a340's are junk but others swear by them. I guess whatever you choose will give the result you want in the end but its just choosing the easiest one that will get you there.
