    Default 4A-GE starting problem - weird one...

    Okay, if I put the key in the ignition, turn it to ON, the fuel pump, thermo fan and A/C fan come on (which they shouldn't).

    If I turn to START, the starter motor does not go on, and the pump and fans remain on.

    If I turn it back to ACC, or LOCK and take the key out, the pump and fans remain on until I disconnect the battery. If I disconnect the battery with the key still on ON, the pump & fans come back on when the battery is reconnected. If I do this when the key is on LOCK or ACC, they remain off when reconnected.

    It did all this last week, I couldn't start it, but the next day it did. Started fine for a two days, then started doing it again.

    I have checked fuses, some relays, I've checked the ECU fault codes, nothing seems out of the ordinary... apart from everything it is doing!

    Any ideas would be extremely appreciated!

    Make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Check that the main earth connections on the chassis and block are also clean and tight.
    You could also check the main ignition relay but I don't think this would cause it to not crank.

    Got a Sparky onto it -

    Not starting: Due to loose earth lead from engine to chassis, coupled with -
    Fans & fuel pump staying on: Terminal that a relay was on was loose and getting power, keeping the fans etc on.
    Took him 15 minutes - Grrrrrrrrrr!
