have u done check the basics like air, fuel and spark??
Hey guys,
having a bit of drama with my 4ac in ae86 (it wont be there long but its gotta get me around for a bit)
basically, anywhere under about 2100 revs if you put load on the engine it just coughs and splutters but its fine after 2100rpm or so.. its really got me puzzled.
any help would be appreciated![]()

Im guessing its the dizzy cap.
Take it off and have a peek at the rotor and points inside it.
Probably as whole lot of dust in there.
Take some sandpaper to the points and rotor and should be sweet.
Clean out the inside with a clean.
Assemble and should be alright.
If its still there, proably coil like Vios said.
just a thought, could also be a fueling problem because the pump runs off the vacuum from the cams.. so it might just be a block or pump's shat itself somehow.. or somehting simple like fuel filter is clogged

carbie might need a look at!
mine had a similar problem a while ago and it ended up to be running on 3 cylinder because one of the leads was gone...If they're fine then do get the carby looked at and spray some carby cleaner into the chamber and you'll see all the carbon build up come off![]()
I have been pruned by old man river!!!!!
Had a T18 that revved freely and died only under load, which turned out to be points completely stuffed, and just had a similar issue to yours in my 4AC powered Ae71 - did what yours does for a bit then got worse, until it started dying as soon as you touched the pedal. This time it was the condensor. For a free fix attempt, grab the condensor lengthwise in a pair of pliers and pinch the ends in a little. A little ghetto but it fixed mine until I could get a new one.
Hope this helps

Mine did this for a while.
You need to replace the points and condenser, taking car the setup the points correctly, check your timing afterwards to be doubly sure.
This problem kept occuring and the car kept clapping out points and condensers and this was traced back to a coil being faulty. Replaced that and the points and condenser have lasted long time!
Let me know if you have dramas as I have done this far too many times.
