pretty sure it is going to be coil pack or igniter, i can sort of hear wot sounds like the coil pack shorting out internally at the same time the car misfires. I would try swapping that for a known good one before anything else.

if you have a multimeter, ensure that the IDL and E2 pins (on the TPS) read as a short when the throttle is closed. Long shot, but if thats gone high the ecu might be thinking you are trying to decel.

Which water temp sensor did you replace? You know there are two; one for the gauge on the dash (which the engine ecu does not care about) and another just for the ecu.Originally Posted by rob_85
What happens is the ecu thinks it wildly cold (or hot - can't remember) and injects extra fuel, hence running rough and stalling. I had this happen on the 7MGTE I had and after two weeks of swapping parts, traced it to the ecu temp sensor.
It may be the answer, it may not. But worth checking.
replaced the one near the Distributor.....it has a wire connection going to the loom, which i would assume goes to the ecu........
thanks tho.......if the coil pack or ignitor doesnt solve the problem, then will look back into it![]()

ok, well got call from mechanic and this is what is going on
it aparently has oil leaking into the 1st spark plug area, which is causing a short, sending weird signals back to the ecu, causing it to cut fuel, generally run like crap
it is firing on the 1st cyl but somehow short out the connection....
weird..ive never heard of this before.... so it's news to me

ah thats crap...
yeah the 7m does like to accumulate fluid (be it water or oil) into the sparkplug holes, and it can cause a nasty miss... and will run like crap (cant belive i forgot to mention that!)...
but sending a signal back to the ecu? lol - no way hoze'
a nasty miss is just that. fix the fluid/short problem and its done. if the mech tries to bend you over for some fancy schmance trickology that cost lotsa $, ask him specifically what was wrong with the ecu that needed 'resetting' or whatever crap. if it was oil in the spark plug hole, tats an uber simple fix, and should be cheap
cheers

maybe the spark is hampered.. kinda like the thing is firing in a pool of oil / water, and so it's affected the sparking and sent some signals back to the ECU?
if this works, cleaning up plug chamber and the car runs perfectly, i'll say i've just learned something new.. the coil plug is alive and senses stuff in the chamber? hehehe
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
my 7M had the same problem, soaked it up with paper towels, fixed it right up(ran smooth even with a leaky HG!
im not dodgy at all!
the 1J had it too, but all the coils were cracked, and it was shorting out, new set fixed it, non cracked!
Eldar.O.
see i put rags down before, and it did nothing......just when started it again.......it is leaking into there
it's well stupid...... the mechanic sent it to an auto electrictian ...... and he came up with the diagnosis....
it's weird.....but it is probably true...... even the mechanic said that he couldnt find anything mechanically wrong with it, hense why the auto elecy was brought it.....
oh and gotta source a 7mge distributor for a mx83 cressida too......stupid one is stuffed and pouring oil out.....
ahh the joys of a 7m![]()

ensure that the leak isn't just because of an old o-ring that seals the shaft of the dizzy with the head. It's a common occurance.
joys of 7m are like the joys of diarrhea... few and painful in most cases![]()
o ring has been replaced..........still leaks........Originally Posted by ViPeR_NiPPleX

the oil is coming through the guts of the dizzy guys, just clearing that up for ya rob.
I suspect it is also not helping as im sure the magnetic pickup etc isnt to keen on being covered in oil
Hope they get it sorted dude, you guys have had a bit of trouble with it lately. Tell ya sis (or maybe ya dad) i know where there is a 1J sitting around not doin a whole lot
