Good stuff mate!
Hi All,
I finally got around to resealing the sump on our SV21 (3S-FE) today.
I made an interesting discovery, due to my laziness.
The workshop manual says to remove the front sway bar, the engine pipe, and the engine to transaxle gusset.
I found that the operation can be sucessfully and easily carried out WITHOUT removing the sway bar, and simply unbolting the engine pipe from the cat converter, loosening the pipe clamp under the engine and unbolting the pipe from the bottom of the manifold.
Then let the engine pipe rest on the crossmember. There is plenty of room to move the pipe aside and take the sump off, along with preparing the bottom of the engine block for the new sealant.
Thought this might be helpful.
Good stuff mate!

i've always done it that way.. thought it was common knowledge ?
anyway that was good info. + rep ..
did u still remove the engine to transaxle gusset? (i'm thinking that's the thing from front to back?)
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
It probably is common knowledge among people who have done it before,
however the only time I've redone a sump is with the engine turned upside down on an engine stand.
Also, I've only had RWD Holden, Ford and Pontiac before, so I'm not used to the Camry.
In reference to the gusset, it's a small triangular shaped brace (cast iron I think) it has two bolts screwed back towards the transaxle and one bolt screwed into the engine block at 90 degrees to the other two. It's located on the front of the block and partially covers one of the sump bolts.
I didn't need to remove the centre member ( the part I think you're referring to)
Cheers.
