Have you over heated and warped the cam cover? My old gemi had a warped Cam cover... just gooed it up. (I am not reccomending this as the final solution... it may be condidered dodgy (alot of things I do are!)
Just put a new rocker covers gasket in my 3sge (on the rear ie. inlet side), however now it's leaking more than it was before![]()
I put a dab of sealant at the bottom of each half moon, and the gasket is a new genuine toyota one. Should I just be more liberal with the sealant and run some more of it in?
I did think being a rubber gasket I shouldn't need to, but obviously it's not sealing for one reason or another!
FWIW the one I took out had a lot of sealant on it, and i did clean up the mating surfaces perfectly

The glass is neither half empty nor half full, rather the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
That's a possibility... I'll check it with a straight edge when I have it off.
Nothing wrong with a little dodgy work here and there![]()

Well they don't appear to be warped, I just pulled it off and checked it. So hard to tell if/where it's leaking though!

more sealant, and screw down the cover screws harder.
Also, make sure your PCV valve isn't blocked, as it could just be crank case pressure pushing oil out.
Check the o-ring on the distributor as well, another well know leak spot.

Thanks Lance
I refitted it with more sealant just around the half moons, and left it 20mins before torquing down completely.. touch wood after a couple of laps of the block there were no drips. But we'll see tomorrow, have to drive it 300+km so if it decides to leak I hope it doesn't leak too much
The o ring on the dizzy has been fixed up.. but may I ask how you check the pcv valve for blockages? I tried a search but not much came up due to the small amount of characters. Do you just blow compressed air into them and see that air flows through it?
edit: spoke too soon, a few drips under it now.. god it shits me when simple jobs don't turn out so simple. I guess I'll retry on the weekend with a mother-load of sealant on it and pray

somewhere in my database there is PCV diagnoses. This is what you want.
I think you just blow air thru it, i can't remember.
It does sound like crank case pressure to me. You are remembering to remove all the sealant everytime you go to reapply?

Yep remembering to remove all the sealant.
I'll have another go at it once I get time, and check the PCV valve.. for the moment it's barely leaking. Strangely seems to only start leak after the car has been turned off for 5 - 10 mins, but taking the oil cap off after stopping and garaging the car seemed to almost clear it up all together.. as though the heat soak once it's sitting affects it somehow
Cheers again Richard, btw nice collection of tech articles in your database! Referred to a couple of them while working on a gt4 today
