massive over filled engine oil

to cut a long story short i over filled my gf's 5s-fe camry (240,000ks) by alot. bout 8.5ltrs was in the engine when i drained it.

the car was driven for about 5 mins like this before we got it back home to drain it, tons of smoke coming out of the exhaust

after draining the oil and getting it back to the proper level the car seems to have no down low power, and misses every so often. trying to take off is a bit of a mission and normally corneres can be coasted around in 2nd but now require a shift back to 1st.

what things could have been damaged and need replacing i was thinking along the lines of:

new plugs
giving it a can of the subaru upper engine cleaner
clean the iac (idle air control valve)
give the throttle body and intake gear a good clean as there was a tiny amount of oil around the air filter.

is there anything else i should be lookin at? pcv valve, cat conveter? i havent done a compression test yet but i will do one of those as well and post up the results

take it for a good drive,might clear it out, the oil prob went out the breather into the inlet manifold when you were filling it. seen it done to a barina once (i had nothing to do with it) and it smoked like bastard for an hour and came right eventually.

yeah there's no more smoke coming out of it, nad it runs well enough, but its just lost all its guts down low, after about 3,500 revs it gets some balls about it self.

and this has happened after the over fill

yeh clean or change your plugs... then take it for a hard thrash with the correct amount of oil in it...

I daresay your cat is now looking worse for wear. I'd be taking intake manifold off as it is undoubtedly full of oil.
No leaks from front/rear main seals?

I overfilled girlfriends Celica once - oil light came on driving down the road, pulled over to a servo, let it sit for five minutes, checked oil and nothing. Put 1L into it, checked again and it was about half an inch above the full mark. Didn't believe it so checked three or four times and got the same reading.
Ended up draining two bowls (that I bought from the servo, along with an adjustable wrench) of oil from it and it went back to the full mark. Still to this day I have no idea what happened.

yeah bout to go replace plugs and clean intake manifold and a few bits and pieces and compression test.

if that doesn't fix it i'll look at a replacement cat

i sucked 16L out of an ML at work one day. they take 8L and some tool had refilled it without draining. It had been driven around like this fro 12 months - not oneproblem...However, take the Cat off and spray the crap ot of it with degreaser then soak it in a bucket of hot water. Will look filthy but might help get some of the crap out of it

I would be personally be using carby/brake cleaner instead of degreaser as it doesn't leave as much of a residue .

yeah used carby cleaner.

replaced plugs and gave the intake manifold a good clean out, didn't take it off though, feels like its running a little better but not 100% but with a motor thats getting kinda old guess i can't expect it to be the bee's kness

comp test went 130 - 130 - 150 - 180 so its a bit under on the first two cylinders

still maybe looking at getting a new cat depending on price

carby cleaner on cat i think they meant... although with that much oil, the cat probably doesn't work anyway (but probably didn't before either )

ie take off, spray cleaner into cat, try to get it down all the channels, see what crap comes out.
if you can't see through it, it is probably causing issues

I don't see how the cat is affecting performance down low? It's presumably not blocked as it's described as flowing well above 3500rpm.
Worst case it's not doing a good job of cleaning the emissions and may make some greenies cry.
O2 sensor on the other hand may be fubared...

O2 sensor is only for cruise really.. on throttle it has no effect..

i didn't read that as "goes back to normal above 3500".... hmm

having to shift into first and having trouble getting enough power to START moving... indicates something is horribly fubar.... if it was the cat being clogged, it would be an easy out.. and easy to check... so may as well start with easy things...
