so you are therefore building a suicide machine?
nice.
Well actually tailshaft RPM is determined by road speed and diff ratio; with my current setup I'd have to be doing over 250km/h before the tailshaft sees 8000rpm, but the car is currently geared for up to 330km/h so it could in theory spin a lot faster than that. In reality neither scenario is likely to happen very often (and attempting to approach 300 would likely result in death), but it's nice to have a drivetrain which can cope should the need arise.![]()

Hey if you've gotta go, it might as well be at 300km/h while pulling 3 lateral g's right?![]()

are you not capable of holding it straight at 300km/h or would the tailshaft explode at 300km/h?

Lack of aerodynamics = car leaves the ground = crashy badness.

Norbie - the sliding spline parts on my tailshaft are all Landcruiser Front shaft parts. Most of my front tailshaft is from a Cruiser even the flange bolting onto the gearbox. I have a 2 piece shaft as well but not sure of the diameter - didn't measure that before I fitted it in.

Well strictly speaking tailshaft rpm/kph is governed by 'final drive ratio' which is a combo of gear ratio, diff ratio and wheel diameter
What we both seem to be saying though is your driveline is pretty 'lazy' relatively speaking.
If we have a run, it could take up to 300 to sort out
I wish we could have those high speed run days that are so popular in the UK....at somewhere sensible like an airport though NOT Eastern Creek facing a concrete barrier.

i have a private stretch of highway you can borrow
note, i do not endorse speed tests on private highways, or any highways for that matter
i think thats a very overkill, even the 4" straight one, its a balanced item that at 8000 rpm is not being shocked...
anywho
whatever works

That's interesting, can I ask how much your setup cost all up? I can't help thinking a Landcruiser tailshaft wouldn't be rated for very high RPM though.Originally Posted by grahamd
I'd be up for that, but can you imagine what the liability insurance would be like for such an event? Actually after the Eastern Creek incident I doubt any insurance company would touch it.Originally Posted by JustenGT8

Yeah sucks...a bunch of ricers have basically ruined it for the rest of us for years. If you could get CAMS on board though it could be a goer
