Changing 1JZ Oil Filter

Hi,

Can anybody shed some light on how the hell i am supposed to get to the damn oil filter on a 1jz in a jza70? We have been trying now for some time and I don't want to put my $80 oil in without changing the filter.

Is it because its too tight, if so jam a screwdriver through it and twist it off that way.
Or is it because its hard to get to and get a good grip on? Get a rubber glove on or something to improve the grip you have. I'm sure the engine bay is differenty, but I got my the filter off my 1jzgte ma61 without too much trouble wearing gloves with a rubber finger grip section.

oh, i just re-read your question.. you can't get to it... have you tried from under the car. Approach the filter from another angle perhaps?

i did it today, piss easy job!

my engine was outta the car though

snake your hand down past the intake and you can grab it, bit painful, theres lots of sharp things, but doable!

as my halfcut was modified a fair bit (ecu, coilovers, swaybar, cooler piping, etc. etc.)

im not sure if ive got the same thing as everyone else, as my filter was quite visible when it was in the halfcut, and i could get my hand, or a filter wrench around it easily.

it sticks out of the block on a 45 degree angle, and is pretty much level with the outer edge of the intake plenum, making it quite easily accessible...

or am i just weird and dreaming?

When i had my jzx83, i got it from underneath over the top of the cross member and the rack. Was piss easy.

Now i just reach the side of the engine

i was thinking along the lines of it looking like an adapter, as when it was in the car, it looked quite easy to change, and not just from looking at it, my hand was able to get around it pretty easy, and plenty of room to grip it and twist.

the first time you do it might be hard, but after that, put the filter on properly (i.e. not NASA spec torque) and it'll be piss easy.

Yep stock adaptor

make sure you use a big rag when you take it out too, wrap it around your hands and arms .. it will give you a better grip and protect your hands and arms from getting cut up.

Lay underneath the car, and reach up with your left arm, and twist. Or if you have a hoist stand underneath it. It is pretty difficult, but wait till you have to change the thermostat, haha...

Hmm, mine is easy as. Have about a foot of clearance with nothing there. No scratches for me
