old thread dig-up!!
hey yeah they look very interesting however unless a facia is disassembled and these put in I cant see how they could be used. I might have some other uses for them though, thanks for the link

you can change the actual illumination lights easy enough
but the actually dash guages and shit, good luck!
Im sure someone made up some photoshopped printable new gauge overlays a while back.
I might have a go at this too... nice little project while im waiting for other project build stuff to happen.
So i gather someone tried using a heap of std bright white leds instead of the luxeons? Didnt it work as well?

ive tried that before MWP - you end up needing about 10-15 LEDs, which makes a mess of wires when you have to hook them all up.
The luxeon-type LEDs have worked the best for me so far - but i suggest using cheaper chinese Ruxeon Leds!
...... butt scratcher?!
Your kidding right, the chinese haven't actually ripped them off THAT blatantly have they?
i've used 5 led plug in replacements for the standard globes. they are much brighter than standard and are dimmable. they won't be as bright as the luxeon but the light is quite well distributed. i also put a reflective paint over the blue interior which probably helps the distribution.Originally Posted by The Witzl

Perhaps you can take some more pics when you have to remove this board so that we can "resource" it.
I just got some EL Glow overlays for mine. Plenty bright, comes with inverter and dimmer. Nice and very even blue glow. Dunno if there available for every car but they look really nice and are a sinch to install.
Kind Regards,
Kurt.

This is what I've done... Screen backlighting is done with 5mm high intencity leds, and the buttons used 3mm leds. I used a dremel to grind down the rounded edge part of the led to make them disperse the light more evenly and to avoid bright spots.
And yes, don't use the luxeon star leds in the dash, you'll go blind! Not to mention that they can't be run for extended periods of time straight off a power source, they get to hot, they need a driver module that pulses them on and off so fast that they just appear to be on all the time.
