    Default surge tank?

Hey guys, Im after some help with mounting my surge tank, I am hoping to mount it next to the rice air intake in the boot (see pic). My question is, will it cause me any problems if I mount it above the fuel tank?, Just wanted to know if/what problem it will cause.

The EFI pump will be mounted below the surge (most probably under the car), I have searched but cant seem to come up with a specific awnser (the witz explination of how EFI systems work is brillant). Im using a 2/3 psi lister pump which seems to pump jagloads of fuel and is as loud as about 10 vibartors with cannon exhausts. A 900ml surge tank and Vl EFI pump. I realise that mounting the surge tank sideways isnt the most efficent way but this mounted sideways in the previous car didnt give me any trouble.

    Cheers,
    Tom

It won't matter where you mount your surge tank. However it works best (depending on where the outlets are) if it is mounted so that it is tall and skinny rather than "lying down" like that one seems to be.

But you can move it wherever the hell you like and it will still work.

i'll second that, it will work much better mounted vertically, and it seems you have the space there to mount it. (and you could set it up as a swirl pot too if you wanted to)

if anything, it is better to have the surge tank mounted higher than the main tank, definately not going to cause any problems.

how do you have the inlets and outlets set up on it?

and what car is it, a ta22 or similar?

yep, allready has the outlets installed, the car is a KE55 and its undergoing a 4age conversion. I pulled the motor and fuel system, loom computer ect from another KE55 but I want to set it up differently as the other car was very untidy.

    Thanks for the replies,
    Tom

    Tom,

you want to have the surge tank mounted so that the outlet to the EFI pump is the lowest exit point of the surge tank and in such a way that it will minimise any chance of the EFI pump being starved of fuel.

Otherwise, the boys here have covered your other questions

you should be able to do it yourself, but i'd guess it wouldnt cost that much to get someone to do it, pruices would be roughly

surge tank (custom or whatever) $100 to $150

lift pump $150 for a really good one, maybeye 50 for a second hand OEM one

high pressure pump $150 to $200

probably 50 or so for hose and hose clamps

The boot layout seems similar to my ta23, my serge tank is mounted verticaly next to the fuel tank. I will take some pics ASAP, the work wasnt done by me but it seems be of good quality.
