Default 4AGZE in TA22 Thermostat Housing

    Hey Guys,

A few years back i bought a 72 Ta22 that had a 4agze put in. After driving around fairly often and finally checking, it seems it does not have a thermostat setup.

Does anyone have any information on the setup of a thermostat on the 4agze? As the Tassie winters almost make it undrivable (especially when the windows fog up on a -2 degree morning and i need to wind the window down to clear it!!!) haha

    thanks

    Kolby

I had the same thing when I got my TA22 with a (nearly complete) 4agze conversion.

    Started with this

Changed it to this using the AE92 housing

    hope that helps

I recently released a cooling kit:

    http://www.sq-engineering.com/upgrad...rsion-kit.html

it's for 20V however I had extra housings machined because I think these can be readily adapter to 16V as well. Using a 90 degree barb out the top with a 90 degree hose and the OEM steel pipe cut down to join to the housing it should fit near on the same. Sure it won't be as cheap as using the 16V gear but it's compact and neat. I plan on trying this soon to see if it indeed does work.

Thanks Stolic. This looks good. Guessing it heads to the radiator at the bottom there?

Where did you but the adapter or kit from?

Hey kolby,- Correct, the bottom pipe would connect to the lower radiator tank. It's not a "kit" as such... just adapted the thermo housing from the AE92 4age (that part usually sits on top of the gearbox from memory) so a wreaker or someone on here might be able to find you one. Then just make up some pipes to connect as in the pic. The pipes I've run in the pic were just thrown together from spare junk so I could see how it would all fit as I had to work around my ITB's. Currently making proper lines out of fancy steel braid for added blings

Mine is off a 4AGE from an AE92... one from a 4AGE from an AE82 can be used, but would be mounted differently as one of the pipes different.

Any advice for piping or mods that you can see would be great

    cheers

If you compare your pics to the link I posted, you'll find that your one is the AE82 version. I can be used, but its a PITA to mount as one of the water pipes points out the side instead of the back. This means that pipe would be pointing at the block instead of the back of the engine (where it takes water from the back of the head) so you cant mount it on the block inline with the waterpump, unless you can get a tight 90' bend on it, but I think you'd be pushed for room.

Yep I asked the guy when i picked it up and he said ae82. I see what you mean about the 90' bend. I figure i may aswell pop it in unless i can track an ae92 one down but no one seems to have one.

Was thinking of setting it up either like the one in this link http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/thr...tures-included or i'll try set it up similar to yours bit with a solid 90 or 110' bend.

So just trying to get my head around the setup. The main hose leads to the bottom radiator? Then there are two that come out at a similar point. Big one leads to water pump? The smaller one leads... Top radiator hose? and then i have the one coming out at a 90' bend. Guessing that leads to the heater core?

    hope that made sense haha?

    cheers
