Default Wiring for a TA22 I am in big trouble

    Hi guys,

I am pretty new to the forums, just signed up the other day after I met Rosie, a memeber here.

I have a 1974 TA22 with a 2tg engine, and I am having some problems with the indicators. I ve had the car for aobut two years and everything has been going fine, but recently everytime after the car gets rained on and I touch the brake peddle the turning signals on the whole left side come on and stay on until I release the peddle. It has happened before and has just fixed itself in the past, but this time its persisted for over a week. Obviously this is annoying to drive with and pretty unsafe. I really need some help.
    Any Ideas???

Check your wiring harness in the trunk to the rear indicator side which comes on when you press the brake pedal.

Its possible that the wires themselves are frayed or have been cut and badly rejoined in the past. Or the connector between the harness and rear light has been damaged.

Water has a way of getting into the lights as the seals age and harden. If it can get as far as the wiring and the wiring is damaged you are liable to get a short.

If this is not the problem its going to be somewhere on the main harness between the rear indicator light affected and the brake pedal switch.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Agree. It sounds like some water is getting into your wiring system, or leaking along your windscreen and under your dash, or something similar.

Thanks very much for your replies guys, I had my 21st last night and it was a big one, so I think I ll get onto that tomorrow, hopefully I can fix it so I can drive around again without feeling like a bit of an idiot. If anyone else has some suggestions that would be very helpful as well

    Thanks again, Tristan

bad earth.....when you put your foot on the brake pedal the brake lights are trying to go to earth through the indicators...hence the indicators coming on...clean all earths near rear lights...

    Hi,

But it must be in a place that is getting wet 'cos it only happens when it's raining. So, it could be water getting into the boot and the wiring there, or around the windscreen and tracking into the cables under the dash. I s'pose there might be other areas also, but these are all I can think of at the moment.

    Oh yeah, happy birthday, sunshine.
