I dunno about there, but what the Tech Dept says here goes.

If you want you can make sure you have the name of who you spoke to, and then if Regency won't accept it, tell them you spoke to Mr X, and he said it was fine. They can then check with Mr X.

Best option though is to request what Mr X says in writing.

fwiw: in Qld, your mods are 'blue-plated' (alloy plate riveted to a panel in the engine bay) - this is affixed by the engineer who certifies the changes to the engine/driveline/brakes etc. This plate has no expiry. It only records VIN number, engineer (name and a number), date of issue and code for each group of mods made. It is supplied by the engineer.

Along with the plate, you get a certificate from the engineer with is submitted along with your registration application (if getting a new registration for the car) or a change of details form (e.g. to record a change in engine number or no. of cylnders). This certificate has no expiry - tho the longer it is between issuing to you and lodging with the DoT, the more suspect the DoT is likely to consider your work. LIke the plate, the certificate is usually short on detail - but it is the document that certifies the mods as 'legal' and safe. You get a copy to keep - dont loose it.

There is no formal requirement for a detailed report on the car - however, any competent engineer would issue you with one as it would clearly set out any modifications made to the vehicle and document test results (like braking capability). If the certificate referenced a report then a copy of it would be supplied for any new registration lodgement. If you loose your copy - expect to pay the engineer (if they're still alive) for another set.

The beauty of the Blue-plate is that you can just point to it a tell a policemant that it's "all legal" - it saves having to keep a copy of the paperwork with the car at all times.

Lodging the paperwork does not usually involve a vehicle being looked at (e.g. engine number checked) by the DoT staff - they rely on the paperwork provided by you.

As there is no annual safety inspection in Qld, people have been know make other mods to their vehicles following the engineers inspection :-) - the likely ways that these would be picked up is via a safety inspection (for selling car) or a DoT road-side vehicle inspection (e.g. mobile defect station) or a random police harrasment stop.

hope this helps anyone in Qld.

    cheers,
