    Default 2T Crankshaft Pulley Removal

    Hi all,

I am in the middle of tearing down the 2T in my TA22 for a rebuild and for the life of me i cant get the crankshaft pulley off.

Any tips? Breaker bar is no good, air gun doesnt seem to be working either, im lost. Real basic question too, but i assume it loosens anti-clockwise like everything else??

    Thanks all.

i used a prybar and jammed it in a tooth on the flywheel so the crank wouldnt move, then get the breaker bar onto it, you wouldnt happen to have a rattle gun?, they make everything easier.

I made a tool to hold the front pulley on a 3SGE from 10mm plate. I just drilled a hole in the center that was big enough to fit my socket through and drilled two more holes to line up with the threaded holes in the front pulley and then welded a bit of square tube about 500mm long to it. Then i just bolted the tool up to the front pulley so the handle touches the ground when you undo the nut with a breaker bar with a bit of pipe over it for an extension.

Yeah i tried my rattle gun but it didnt budge, must be too cheap.

I think tomorrow ill try jamming a bar in the wheel then try the breaker bar again.

    thanks for the replies.

Feed a length of soft rope (8mm clothes line rope is good) into cylinders 1 & 4 through the spark plug holes with pistons at the bottom of their stroke, then take to it with an impact socket and breaker bar.

    Thanks all.

This may be a real silly question, but this isnt a reverse threaded bolt is it? Still anti-clockwise to loosen?

    Cheers

Fill your rattle gun with wd-40 then try it again
Seriously, it works. My 18$ supercheap special rattlegun wont budge crank bolts without being pumped full of it

Borrow a 3/4 gun or strong 1/2 gun, also yeah check thread and use penetrating fluid like rost-off by wurth.
Can get pullers at tradetools, not too dear.

Thanks all, got it off this morning by jamming a screwdriver in the pulley spokes and using a breaker bar flexing opposite directions.

Just performed my first engine and gearbox removal too.

Now... before i put this block on the engine stand do i take off the flywheel or leave it on.... also, any ideas on how to lock the engine so i can unscrew the flywheel bolts???

you dont need to lock the engine, a rattle gun, even yours should undo them, they shouldnt be as tight as the crank pulley bolt, as caam said fill the rattle gun with wd40, or what i use (p/s fluid) and give it a crack

Get a piece of flat bar, drill 2 holes on each end big enough to fit the bell housing bolt on one side and pressure plate bolt on the other side.
Bolt the flat bar to the flywheel and engine block so the flywheel doesn't move. You can also use this method to torque up the flywheel.

yeah didnt need to lock anything, my rattle gun (as cheap as it is) made light work of these bolts.

Now i just have the block set up ready for the rebuild, thanks for all your help guys.
