What about an Apexi Power FC?
There is another one that handles VVTi but I can't think of it right now, I'll see if I can find out for you though.
Right, well as the uni year draws to an end, it's time to finish collecting goodies for my turbo swap.
Of course, my car being vvti and drive by wire, not many computers can handle this.... so I'd like my fellow toymodders opinions on what my best option is:
1) Autronic SM4. This can control the vvti, but not the wire throttle... which would mean swapping either the throttle or the whole plenum. This is a big consideration, as it will push the SM4 up closer to motec pricing. Base price for the unit is around $2k (mates rates bro)
2) Motec M600/800 with CAM and wire throttle options, possibly logging. This is a fabulous option obviously. Top of the line, all the wonderful things.... but a price tag of closer to $3500 (base, without the options) makes it a slightly less happy choice... bonus being I don't have to go swapping manifolds etc.
3) I heard a rumour the new Wolf ecu (possibly not out yet?) will be able to handle both vvti and drive by wire.... but, well, I'm a little less than convinced of wolfs at the moment.

I think the Haltech E11v2 can do VVTi, my memory is a bit hazy though.

Wolf V500 page.
At a skim read, it looks like it may not do by-wire throttle. I have a Wolf V4 and have nothing bad to say about it. Not sure why they have a bad name in some circles.

The other one I was thinking of was the Hydra EMS http://www.hydraems.com/
looks like the VVTi 2JZ version is still under development...![]()
I just realised why not the Apexi... they don't do an ECU for the 2JZ... bastards...Originally Posted by Blue_Stivo

Hi,
Get the Motec. It saves you stuffing around with manifolds and that jazz. Remember, you don't want "danger to teh manifold".

you want to give me some money for my motec fund river?![]()
I'd feck off the fly by wire deal. For an extra 1500 odd just to get the base line motec ecu, is it really worth it?
Surely a good looking bloke like you could find SOME way to get the moneyOriginally Posted by Draven

I'd hardly call the m800 the base-line ecu
I guess I'm considering the cost of a non-vvti manifold, effort to swap it over, changing throttle cables.
Well Nath... if you were to come over here and let me be your pimp I'm sure I could make a LOT of money selling off Orlando sex favours
This is what's known as opportunity.
"Oh no the best value ECU won't control my drive by wire. Actually it will be cheaper for me to get a custom plenum with a nice fat throttle body for the price difference between the ECU's that can and can't control the drive by wire."
It's a lot like my 3S shenanigans. "Oh no I cracked a piston" therefore I had to rebuild it and end up with 240 odd rwkw, then it craked turbo bits so I had to go to the turbo I really wanted and make a heap more power all over the place.
Yes I am the devil as far as mods for your car is concerned.
my plenum/throttle body won't be a restriction at the power levels I'm aiming for, so they'd be kinda pointless.
I guess I'll start hunting for 2j plenum and see what turns up

Draven,
I'm intending on using the 1G computer to control the throttle by wire. Why? Coz I wanna maintain cruise control
As far as I was told there are liability issues with throttle by wire (on a lesser level than ABS et al) and aftermarket ECU manufacturers are reluctant to support it.
The throttle cable actuates an APS usually on the same shaft as the throttle plate. The throttle cable has the ability to push the throttle plate open at WOT (but will only open the plate to about 30%), thus already having a mechanical link between the cable and the plate. You can, therefore, modify this mechanical link so it activates at any cable position.
On the 1G-FE throttle body, the mechanical link is externally visible and accessible and it would be trivial to make the TB completely mechanical. The gearing could be removed if you wanted to have less resistance, but the motor is not connected unless an electric clutch is activated.
On the 1UZ throttle body, the mechanical link is inside and the TB would need to be disassembled to make it purely mechanical - I haven't decided if I'll go down that path yet, but it's an option.
So... depending on how the 2JZ throttle body is made, it might be a piece of piss to make it mechanical. My vote would be to at least explore this option, especially if you're looking at replacing the plenum to solve the problem (if you break it, you havent gone backwards).
