here is my stiuation, I have 1978 ford mustang that is a v6. I also have a 1987 v8 5.0 fox body that i want to swap to the 78. But theirs a problem, the v8 is fuel injected and the v6 in carberated. Do you think that i will have to replace the rear end? Also the axle is four bolt does that need to change to a five bolt? is their anything that i need to know or advice for me to make it faster and easier?

To be honest, I wouldn't have a clue about the Mustangs layout or standard (or aftermarket) equipment. So I won't pretend to comment.
My suggestion is check with people who know a little more about them. It's pretty safe to say, most people here are into their Toyota's. ^_^'
But can I say, if you're genuine, good choice, going the 5L V8 replacing a V6. ^_^
it doesnt matter if the V8 is carb or EFI, what you need to determine is whether the acutal diff will be able to hold the power of this new engine. one way is to jsut swap the engine in, wire it up, drive it if it breaks, upgrade to another. else keep going
in terms of four or five bolt, i take it that you are asking about 4 or 5 stud hub, in which case its a matter of what is available for your diff. you may find that there are ford axles with 5 stud which interchange with your current diff. else you may find that there are entire differentials from other cars that will fit up to your one.
changing diffs = diff jig ftw
but seriously, we cant help you with any specifics![]()
put a 2j in and wall will be sweet!
Surely there are at least a dozen forums out there dedicated specifically to Mustangs and older Fords in general... why on earth did you choose to post on one called Toymods?![]()
