    I agree with cool1, what is the fuse rating?

    Also, reading your first post again, your voltage ratings you quoted - what were you reading them off?
    If they were the battery - you "might" have damaged your regulator??????

    the black wire with the blue crimp goes into that big black box bellow the magneto. when i put the multimeter on that wire and the red fused wire i see 8-10v at idle, so should be a good earth right?

    the fuse is rated at 10a but thats only because thats the only glass fuse i could find at the time and i dont know where the original fuse went! what size should it be?

    in my first post i was simply putting the multimeter on the wires that i thought were correct (i.e. not conected to the battery)

    ok so the red fused wire to the positve bat terminal (pull start on this baby!) and neg bat terminal to the earth point. will hook all this up in the morning and see how i go
