Tell me mick, who would you go to in order to get custom rods made?
you could shot peen them till just the gudgen was left or get superman to use his super dooper vision on them but they will never come close to a gze rod!
A gze rod is stronger than a chevy x rod and a chev x rod is a good 6 litre rod for what it costs and the gze rod is a 1.6 litre rod!!!
Tell me mick, who would you go to in order to get custom rods made?

I guess ideally those custom rods might work with standard GZE pistonsfor a cheap 150cc increase in engine capacity (over 4age). I am also curious about the custom crank too and if it can mate up to standard 8 bolt flywheels etc. It a bugger that V8 guys can get such cheap hardware compare to the japanese 4-6cylinder crowd. Is the 7A block comparable to say the late model GE / GZE block?

Nope, the late model GE/GZE block is the same as the 7rib 100kw block just with different bosses afaik.

And here is the critical part from that page:
There is little doubt that they will hold together with custom rods, but the stock rods are poo.Conrods: ARGO Custom rods with 3/8" ARP bolts.

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but does anyone know if the 7A block will accept the standard 4A engine mounts / brackets? i.e. Will it bolt into an AE92 or an AW11 etc? I suppose that the E51 / E58 etc should bolt up and I guess thats 3 of the 4 mounts.
I think its a little pointless worrying about building a 7AGZE say if its not a direct bolt in for a 4AGZE - I mean why spend $1500 on custom rods for a 7AGE to make it handle the rigours of forced induction like a stock 4AGZE if on top of all that you have to custom make a whole lots of stuff? Might as well buy a 3SGTE that should rev harder and make more power if thats the case..![]()

The bracket that bolts to the engine to hold the mount is the same p/n. for ae101 corolla for 7afe & 4afe (JDM Spec)
ATM and MTM have diff p/n's for some of the mounts
But i wouldn't believe there would be a great difference with them.

The big issues with the 7A conversion being bolt in are the mounts for the supercharger. Theoretically the bottom mounts will fit up, but the spacing between the head and the charger will be different and also the top mount will not reach. Although i dare say that all of this could be fixed with some 3-5mm alloy plate.

Takai,
I use a 'hybrid' SW20 / 4AGZE driver's side driveshaft on my AW11 to stop suspension tavel interfereing with my custom SC14 bottom mount/tension. Does the 7A block have all those holes (for drive shaft bearing support bracket and the SC mount) like the 4A block? I must have a look at a 7A block soon!

I have no idea just yet, i was mainly hypothesizing last night. All based on the fact that the head will be 15mm higher, so anything mounted off that will be out of alignment.
Im getting a 7AFE soonish, so ill take some good photos.

i understand the rods are crap...and nothing near the 4age rod size, but would they stand up to 200HP? 250HP? in a 7agte? being shot peened, balanced, with new rod bolts?
Doubt it, but ill probably find out over the summer

I have a mate building a 7age at the moment. He's also got a set of ARGO rods for it so they may be an off the shelf item with the amount of people looking at this setup. Will ask him next time i see him. They're BEEFY rods... way way chunkier than the Crower 4a rods i have.
And i agree with Takai... the stock rods will break no matter how much you prep them.
Eddie.
4agte finally completed. 234rwkw @ 8125rpm. Tis fun
