Stock 2jzge still has more power . Whether or not they are faster is another thing

The choice is really 7mgte or 2jzge. 7mge is nice but unless you have the coin as said to go nuts then its not worth it. That being said for a daily driven car it'd still be a nice package.
    If in doubt power out

I had a stock 200,000km 5mge with 98atw. And that was roughly (read a weekend) dropped into a MS55 with stock 3sp auto.

Start with more power and still get your fill of 5m goodness.

Im gong to be dynoing a 5mge soon in my cressida, the motor had a freshen up about 18 months ago i will let you know what they make. A 5mge would be an easy and cheap swap aswell.

Also considered, then idea was canned because you may aswell go 7MGE, then idea was canned because you may aswell go 2JZGE.

But don't worry, I did seriously consider doing a 5MGE conversion just to get some hands on experience and gain a better understanding for things. Wasn't looking for more power rather a learning experience.

from experiance dont go the 5m-te. A few years ago i did this, lasted all of a week. The motor ended up in a skip.

I know you could do all those motors but it just seemed like that motor is well within your budget range. i think bigworm has a whole 5mge setup for sale for like $400 and you will learn heaps doing the conversion. Im not really sure what the rest of you car is setup like but maybe do the cheaper motor (i.e. 5mge) and throw some money into better brakes and fresh suspension. I once spent 6 grand in 6 months on a FJ20 turbo and found you really do need deep pockets and that was with the motor already in the car.
Just think about it and spend some time weighing up what you want to do cause its a big thing to jump into a late model engine conversion.

Whilst I'm prepared to accept a 5MGE makes about 90+ rwkW, 5MEs only made 120-130 hp at the fly (ie 90 kW at the fly). Factor in the usual 25 - 30% drivetrain loss and you've got the standard sort of 65 rwkW that we see.

You sure it wasn't 90 rwHP?

Not being a dick but I'm having some difficulty swallowing it.

I've just bought EBC green stuff pads for the front and blacks for the rear, I've ordered DBA slotted rotors for the front and getting plain for the rear, ordered custom front coil springs 1 inch low and 300lb and also ordered koni yellows for the front. Planning custom 250lb rear springs and konis but at the moment its king lows and monroes So suspension and brakes is currently being taken care of before any engine upgrades begin

Yes it wasn't HP.... I'll go grab a link to the dyno sheet for you It was just after a service and tune and oil change etc etc. I have 2.25" straight through exhaust, extractors, no resonator on intake, K&N pod.

PS, the fact you don't believe me is exactly the reason I want a 100+ rwkw 5ME

has anyone told you not to do this yet?

perhaps you should add a poll. I reckon i could predict the result pretty accurately too.

I've never owned one, but the blue whale's engine made me almost cry on too many occasions to ever knowingly see someone else got down the same path.

It'll send you insane or broke or both. In fact it will send you everywhere except down the street.

no, we all agreed it was a brilliant idea as import engines are just too darn expensive
