    Default MS123 discs onto MA61?

    Hi

I will be putting MS123 hubs onto my MA61 - part of this work will be the drilling of the current 4 stud discs into 5 stud.

Can I use the discs from a MS123 in place of drilling the MA61 ones?

I tried sourcing some blank rotors, but can't get them.

Searching shows lots of info about the hub swap - but doesn't seem to mention much about a rotor swap.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

From memeory (its in the forum somewhere) there are issues with the rotor offset and the handbrake, which is why everyone just redrills the MA61 rotors.

    Right - thanks.

I thought there must be a reason why it isn't done.

    Cheers

I have MS123 disks on the rear of mine.

I went this route as I prefer to be able to buy off the shelf bits as opposed to having to get disks machined each time!

If you look up the DBA specs you will see that the MS123 hat height is ~3mm deeper (more inboard) than the MA61 (from memory..it is around that). The MS123 disk is also 2mm larger in Dia (not an issue). I'm not aware of an issue with the handbrake? (it appears to work...)

I milled my existing MA61 caliper brackets ~ 3mm to allow them to sit further back and hence sit on the MS123 disk without issue!

    Cheers

Yes, because you are going to go through that many sets of rear discs in a lifetime...

I'm still tossing up which route I want to go.

Well - I went the Wilbo way - $100 for a shiny new 5 stud MS123 rear rotor.

Hopefully will keep the engineer a bit happier than seeing redrilled ones

And as I'm getting new front rotors - kinda made sense to have new ones on the back as well - just because I'm anal like that

I think you'll find the engineer will be happier seeing redrilled discs, than milled caliper brackets.

As cruz says it isn't like you are going to go through a lot of rear disks, but still I do prefer off the shelf part where avaliable...

You could always look at spacing the disk out 3mm (checking for handbrake clearance) with a spacer inbetween the disk and hub to avoid maching the caliper bracket...

    Cheers
    Wilbo
