Stuck Flywheel bearing

I blew the clutch in my RA28 last week and i was pulling out the bearings to replace em as they where in terrible condition. The push bearing came off fine but the bearing in the end of the crank shaft was all a mess, the inner ring of the bearing came out and now i can't for the life of me get the outer ring out. It's stuck firm.

Has anyone got any tips for getting it out?

there is an easy way to do it if you didnt do what you did, luckily for you i tried to smash one out once and ended up in a situation like you. i ended up levering mine out with a screwdriver, but a slide hammer will do the trick better

try using different sized open end spanners too, should be too hard but will be a bit fiddly

the screwdriver worked for me tool!

If you have access to an electric welder, just give it a short run insde the bearing. The resultant shrink will let it come out dead easy (MIG, TIG or ARC will do fine).

Yeah i was doing that but i was afraid of scoring the end of the crank

I pulled the flywheel off so i could get better leaverage too and i just know its going to be a complete pain to get it back on.

Im gona need a bigger hammer.

Oh and I know the easier way is to pack back of the bearing with grease then use suitable rod/bolt to force it out with hydralic pressure. I didnt have any grease though and i was short on cash and patience.

tried this with a really stuck one and all it did was push the dust seal and cage out...
after screwing around for literally hours I ended up using a slide hammer and it came out in a couple of decent hits

Got a slide hammer but it looks like i have to find a nut that fits and then weld a lip onto it so i can get a grip on the inside edge, ive spent 3 days on this damn thing its getting pride of position on my display shelf as the most anoying item i hav come across!

The head of a carriage bolt will probably hook behind it, and a bar or angle iron with a hole for that bolt will make a nice lever.
DO NOT score, nick, or gouge the flywheel mating surface!

Same thing happened to me in a 280Zx if you can get onto the end of the outer race you can centre pop it and it might make it move.
depending on size get a drill and hope it bites in and spins out, failing that leave it in and BUSH the crank to suit your gearbox shaft if you have sufficient room left.

I have run in years gone by without a bush on a Cortina GT.

theres a tool designed for this purpose
i have one in the shed, dad bought it after destroying my spigot bearing.
basically its a bearing puller thats small enough to get inside of the spigot bearing and pull from the inside.
i think it was the spigot bearing you are talking about?

Yeah its the spigot bearing, Unfortunatly its demolished with only the outer ring remaining.

I still say - electric welder, short run inside and it will fall out. I have done this many times.

Does anyone you know have an arc welder? or a portable mig, or a little inverter tig? can you hire one?

If you were close to me, I would come and do it for you.

Why not drill a hole from the other side and knock it out with a punch?
