i have done it about 15-20mm down from the top, i also only welded the bottom as to not disturb the thread for the gland nut, i take it you will be shortening the strut too, do this maybe 50mm down, so that if you get too much penitration like i did, you are able to clean up the inside with a die grinder and get the insert all the way in

    Cheers, Peter.

Sorry guys I am sure it is in the thread somewhere (I have looked) but what SW20 shocks do I use? I can get KYB cheap but was unsure if I need the adjustable AGX?

    cheers

    You probably don't need adjustables.
The ones people use are rears.

I found summit racing to be the cheapest option but shop around

Ricey, the choice between adjustable and stocko style inserts is a personal thing, depends on what you want the car to do. But, if you are going down the road of modding struts I will have to assume you like a car to handle, that being the case the get the adjustable inserts.

    cheers Chuck.

so what are people doing for a brake upgrade, now that the basic parts for the "corona, pug, hilux" combo are obsolete?

    What basic parts are obsolete?
Calipers can be bought new (aftermarket), struts are still a 2nd hand item, and rotors can still be bought from RDA/Protex/Ultima/others (just not DBA anymore)....

if anything the struts are getting harder to get. Every time i see one in a wrecking yard the struts are long gone. The rest is easy though

    the rotors are obsolete here.
the struts have always been near impossible to get.
surely there is another option or options?

If parts aren't available locally for you, the Z32 caliper / MPV rotor upgrade may be a viable option. A mate of mine has done this on an xT14x Corona strut, which I believe are same / similar to xA6x Celica (not supra) strut. It would certainly be worth investigating if these fit on other struts, as using the xT14x / xA6x struts mandate use of the matching steering knuckle, which loses ~5mm track per side (compared to earlier celica / corona). Otherwise wilwoods. Everybody loves wilwoods.

Hey all. If anyone still needs corona struts I was at Kelly's wrecking just a few weeks ago and still some corona's with struts in them. The right model too.

Have a look at Joel's TurboRA28 build thread about page 28. His setup used the standard 28 leg but with RX7 calipers and Citroen rota. I have done this conversion for my rebuild but am still a long way from completing the car. You can get the early series calipers (rebuilt) ones from the USA for about $76 plus postage from Rockauto. I think the Rotos are from a C5. You use the original bracket just have to redrill the mounting holes. Less weight than the hilux/pug system. Not home for a week or so but can supply addition info when I get home if you wish.

Hi all, I've read through a lot of this thread along with a few others no different forums about the same/similar brake conversion. I'm keen to do this no my RA28 but am also keen to have 5 stud up front. I'm going with a Volvo 240 diff so will have 5x108 on the back, has anyone tried to match that pattern on teh frnot before? Anyone know of a hub with that pattern that'll fit with little effort? Whatever I do I will need it to eventually pass engineering in VIC as this is for a street car. Tahnks ni advance for any help, also if a different brake upgrade would better suit to get this stud pattern lpease tell me all about it.
