This also sounds good. And have it triggered at a certain boost level...

    Cheers

Cool Re: Water injection vs Intercooler

Would advise against running water injection upstream of a turbocharger, the vanes are easily damaged if getting hit by water droplets.
Actually that's untrue. Ask Garrett. Even their head Australian (Geoff Watson) @ your turbo center has been quoted to saying it's not the fluids hitting the blades that cause a problem. It's people not properly filtering the airflow. What you can get into is poorer end atomization that might be achived post compressor.

I have thought about this in the past also.

I already have a FMIC but was going to add water injection to cool the intake charge.

When looking at the price of the kits I figured may as well just spend the $$ and get a nitrous kit instead. Cools the intake charge and makes more power.

From what I have found, the cylinder temps dropped with water/meth injection but it wouldn't actually make more power. So for people who have to run crap fuel then it would be a good idea but if you can run good fuel just do that get an air to air or w2a cooler and give it a shot of n2o when you want to blow your turbines into the cat

But for people who dont/cant run a intercooler water injection is a viable option. Ther are other positives in not running a intercooler such as shorter inlet path.

OK WW2 radial engines, fitted to aircraft, used water methanol injection.

The water meth, was injected after the first of 2 centrifugal compressors. This was used to increase air density, so the pilot who controlled the fuel air mixture, could add more fuel. More dense air + more fuel = more torque, enabling the big lumbering buses to get off the ground.

What happens to a jet engines compressor leading edge, when it flies through rain, erosion/no erosion.?

Best bet is to ensure very good atomisation of the water, before it is injested anywhere in the engine.

    cheers Chuck

Have a talk to Mark Alford from http://www.full-throttle.com.au/ about running water injection and intercooler/no intercooler. SInce he has done both, he has real world data from his datsun sunny IPRA car with a turbo FJ in it and will be able to advise you on what to do.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

get a jjr intercooler from justjap in syd www.justjap.com get the 450x300x76 these a dirt cheap (even cheaper on ebay sometimes) and it will fit behind the grill where no one can see it:

post is here for many different options:

    http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...23+intercooler

im going with the fmic mentioned above and buying a water sprayer kit that will pulse water over the intercooler when at a certain temp

    Jaycar:

Intercooler Water Spray Controller ==> Cat. HB-6013

Im even thinking about placing one inside the intake before the intercooler.

Also, DONT do what I read some dumbass do in a recent hot4s mag and stream a jet of water directly into the turbine wheel, cos at the speed its trvelling it actually cuts through it!

    Goodluck!

    You mean KC5374 + KC5422... HB6013 is a jiffy box.
