    Default permissions for posting

    Howdy all,
just checking permissions in for sale sections...

seems mostly ok for most sections..

    cannot post new,
    can post reply
    cannot attach
    can edit reply.

but in Toyotas for sale, i have all posting rights (and put a post there to check)

also, in forum sponsors, i don't have posting rights (as i shouldn't) but i CAN edit posts (if i could actually put them there in the first place..)

also in "Profile" the hotmail handle wanted email address, whereas yahoo messsenger just wanted alias, not whole address....

    Hey Stu

    Thanks for testing dude.

It looks like everything is working as it should. We figured that the most common time the board has reason to tell people to use the forum just to sell something is when they are trying to sell a Toyota and that this would be in the best interest of our members so we made the Toyota's for sale section available to any forum member.

In all of the rest of the for sale sections a new forum member is able to reply to threads and to edit their own posts.

Once a forum member who is not a Club member has 40 cred they are then able to make new threads in all of the for sale area's other than sponsors and misc.

The yahoo thing on the other hand I have NFI about, I just chose to allow IM support. Does it work the way it is or will it cause issues?

The Yahoo thing is right. Users are identified by a unique username.

MSN is the only IM protocol that uses an email address for the user ID.

ahh coolies.. MSN sucks .. then again, it's become my main msgr by default as everyone else is on...

i guess newbies will either know this or work it out quickly enough if my old brain could do it......

Yup whoring is going to have the opposite effect. If people get pissed at you post whoring they'll give negative rep feedback and you'll be further from having access, especially if it's an admin who does it since they have rep power of 10.

Yes, MSN sux. But luckily there's Trillian (does all the different IM protocols in one program).

I like the idea of the reps. It'll be interesting to see how well it works.

yup i think the rep is a great idea! if it looks like someone is gaining too much cred, they can always be smacked down...
is it possible to see who gave you cred? would that be a good thing if you could??
or is it better to be anonymous?

the 30 second posting thing is good too!! can it be altered to be 30 seconds from the last attempt to post? or would that get too annoying?
currently it is 30 seconds total from last effective post time...

I don't think there is confurability for checking time between attempted posts.

Once you're in one of the more privelliged groups, either a club member or a normal forum member with 40 cred or more you can see who is giving you feedback.

I don't like the cooldown time between posts.

It's not like we actually have spammers coming on and hitting the forums with a shitload of posts.

I like the cooldown, or "flood control" feature actually.... i mean how many times have people been impatient dickheads and clicked "add reply" 50 times whilst waiting for their reply to actually load, and then ended up posting the same reply 50 times.....

Although - you can delete your own post cant you??

If users can delete the post, flood control not really necessary.
If you cant, then keep it.

    This is only my opinion.

Yep the reason why I set it to 30 seconds was to stop all of the multiple replies when people get impatient.

Users are not able to delete their own posts.

Just a thought, but in relation to needing rep points to start threads in Classifieds, could we have people with 0 or less points not being able to reply, or possibly even view the classifieds?

This could stop people who always post negative comments from doing so, or even viewing the section.

Once again, random thoughts to try and tidy up Toymods image.
