The ratio should be stamped on the yoke. My manuals have been borrowed but from memory there are two diff housings .one carries ratio's from 3.7 down and the other 3.7 up and the range is from about 3.0 to 4.6. if this is correct your housing may not accomodate the lower ratio you desire.I will try to confirm tomorrow if i can .TOY77 would have the info at hand but he is in the USA buying bits

    according to http://people.physics.anu.edu.au/~am...volvo_dana.htm

you can mix and match 1031's but not 1030's with 1031's. so i would presume that any 1031 4.1 would fit in the 1031 3.53.

though i am trying to find more info on this. worse case senario i would get a custom one made to fit if i had to. iv spent that much on the car, there is no reason to cut short now...

    cheers

ok did a bit more research and from the same site above, they have this link http://www.k-jet.org/files/greenbook...le_repairs.pdf

according to page 1 (3 of 52), the diffs have the following ratio's

    1030 >>> 3.73, 3.91 & 4.10
    1031 >>> 3.54 & 3.73

so do you go for the stronger diff housing or the better ratio's?

well i have the 1031 now so i am nt going to change that. so if i cant get a 4.1, i might settle for a 3.73 or custom a 4.1 or other ratio i choose.

    cheers

My 1031 diff started with a 3.73 but I definitely fitted a 4.1 ratio to it, out of a 740/760...

from all the info i can find and as we all know by now, the 1030 and 1031 both came with Dana 30 centres.

there is info that you can not swap centres for diffs that are 3>3.73 and those that are 3.73 > up.

but from what i have found, you can not swap 1030s with 1031s (we know this already. but you can swap centres between any and all 1031s irrespective of ratio. though i have yet to confirm this as fact, but you seem to have done this, but your scenario still falls within the second part above.

i found a website in sweden that do custom ratios up to 5.xx for the 1031.

do you still have the 3.73? if i can fit that onto my 5.53 with no issues, then we can put this isse to rest (i hope)...

    cheers

guys got a question about the diff i picked up... when i turn the tailshaft yoke, both wheels turn in the same direction... does this mean i have an LSD in there?

i know i can pull it apart to check, but i do not want to do that now...

so if anyone can answer me, it would be greatly appreciated...

    cheers

Not necessarily, to check for LSD, turn one wheel forward the opposite side should turn in the same direction for LSD, or it will turn in the opposite direction for open wheeler.

ok, did the spin trick and it appears to be an open diff...

at the same time i have done some measuring and am confused. has anyone done this conversion in a TA22 and had it engineered?

according to all the info i have on the '22, the rear track is 1285 but when i measure my diff i get 1370, so which is it?

the reason i ask is because you cant go more than 25mm longer for the track, which would mean i need to get the diff shortened, but do i shorten it based on 1370 or 1285?

anyway, if anyone has done this on a '22 and has it engineered, please let me know

    cheers

The track is the measurement between the centreline of the wheels mounted to the diff, not the diff width. You need to find some positively offset wheels to get it engineered as it is

ok, so that would mean if my diff is 1400mm (hub face to hub face) and you can go 25mm total past factory, then my track can not be more than 1310mm (1285mm from factory).

    So 1400 - 1310 = 90 / 2 = 45

this would indicate that i would need a +45 offset on my wheels to keep it legal, yes?

    Hi All,

Just wanted to confirm that the 9 hole volvo disc can be drilled out to 5 x 114.3?

I'm looking at getting some new slotted DBA discs (part no: DBA381SL & DBA381SR) but the bloke at DBA said he rekoned it wasn't possibe to put the other set of holes in... He sent me this tech diagram:

I'd thought that you drill a new set of holes, is this wrong? Do you actually move some of them across/out instead?

Sorry for all the noob questions.

    Cheers,
    Ben

you cant get 5 new holes.....

some of the holes over lap as such.

Mine is 114.3x5 stud pattern - the guy who did my diff seeme dto think it was fine lol.... There really isnt anywhere for them to go to - they are not going to tear through the steel.

    cheers
