fwiw, this is how i did my RA40 (which being a hatchback has similar problems as per RA28) without a surge tank.
-EFI pumps draws from the tank thru the largest carbi filter i could find and fit
-EFI pump is mounted as low as possible
-EFI filter is mounted up in engine bay
the zip ties around EFI pump are ghetto-spec
The EFI pump is mounted between the tank and the diff and is partly protected by the mount for the horizontal control am (name escapes me at moment)
now that i know this works, i'll replace the zip-ties with proper brackets and put some flexible stone guard ahead of the hardware to minimise damage
