    Default Differential ID required

This is the first of a request to identify differentials as I acquire them.

    Crown wheel markings S627 11x43 05-10-20

7.1 inch measured Open ex 1976 Mark 2 MX13. calculates to 3.909 Fine spline 2 spider gears and single spider shaft.

So which live axle rear end had 7.5 inch?

can the above diff be fitted retro with an LSD centre, if so who sells them? Thanks

    7.1" = E series = no LSD.

    if it's 7.1" and from a mark 2, it's not a '76 mx13 as they all had an F diff which is 7.5"

the early models mk2's (mx10/12/22) had e diffs which are 7.1"

    Thanks for that info.

I measured through the centre pinion carrier and its 7.1 inch outer to outer.
The vehicle is an MX13 off the fire wall 4 door 4M engine.
Axles are about 10cm shorter than the avante axle stood side by side and thick fine splines about 1.5 inch diameter.
AXle is coil spring with locating arms and quite a big looking diff hen compared witha 6.9 next to it so maybe its 7.5 but it doesnt measure that way.
I cant see any casting marks just the numbers I set out in my first posting.

if you have the car, then it'll say what the diff is on the firewall. although by the sounds of it someone may have changed it out for some reason. also 3.909:1 is the only ratio the mk2 F diff came in. i think the E diff is the same.

i have an F diff centre here somewhere. i'll pull it down and see if that sheds some light. actually, that won't be necessary, as the E diff and F diff have different size carriers. you measure your diff carrier flange (outside diameter) and i'll measure mine.

okay, just dragged my spare F diff centre out and here's what i found:

    crown wheel major dia. ~ 188mm (~7.4")

diff carrier flange major dia. ~ 230mm

    markings on crown gear are as follows: 11X43 @ 05 9 10 R526

the @ symbol represents a little toyota insignia like those stickers being sold here.

COOL I measured it again and got 7.5- also S627 11x43 05-10-20 which is manufacturing ratio and the freeplay numbers if you could decode them.

    So Mark2 Coronas are 7.5 3.909. as per the wall plate F312 4M MX13-023621

Next job to try to find a clutch centre and 4 spider to convert it to LSD

yeah i reckon the last random numbers are either batch numbers or measurements of the tolerance variations.

F312 is the diff, it means it's F, which is a 7.5" crown wheel, the 31 is the ratio as per toyota's chart(ie it isn't 3.1:1), and the 2 means it's a two pinion open diff.

someone please put up the link for norbie's diff reference site.

Question is it worth pulling the guts out of a CROWN F292 7.5 4.100:1 Salisbury diff mounting, IRS and refititing into banjo carrier.

Low k diff only 140.000 froma Crown Royal Saloon

    Interesting how RA 40 celicas only had T292 6.7 4.1's E302 Cresida 3.727 7.1 inch.
Mark 2's F series like Corona GT and Celica GT.

F series are getting really rare.

no, it'll bolt into the mx13 diff silly

i found that castrol vmx80 works well for my W50's, they shift very well. it's about $9-10 for 1 litre.
