    Default New generation T-VIS

This shows a great cut-away picture of the Audi R8 engine. Take a look at the blue flaps before the valves.

It looks like they block half the trumpet to bring air speed up then retract at high revs, just like T-VIS, only a little more elegant.

They would probably make a decent anti reversion device at low revs as well.

very interesting.. doen't look too hard to implement either...
wonder how much difference it actually makes?

Great ideas are usually the simplest..

We know that T-VIS works and this would flow a lot better than a T-VIS system.

as long as the plates are big enough not to get sucked in the valve
i'd hope the screws were pretty vibration resistant....

couldn't really be that hard to make somethjing up to do similar tho.... just mod a manifold hmmmmm

Is there any job which doesn't sound easier when you say "just" before you describe it?

couple of other interesting things in that drawing -
-rockers with hydraulic pivot point (like 5mge) and rollers under the cam
-dual cam gears not scissor gears (ala 1uzfe) along with the chain drive

I'm guessing these are for increasing service intervals - but must add to engine weight, build cost and replacement parts costs?

Not sure on the cam gears, but rockers allow a lot more freedom in cam profiles. With a direct acting 'bucket' style setup, the flat top on the follower means that a high ramp rate cam can start to touch off centre which imparts a side loading on the buckets and that's all kinds of bad. A finger follower setup elimiates this problem without adding too much weight. If you look at the profile of the cams, you will see that they are very 'flat' across the peak when compared to the 'pointy' factory cams we are used to.

The other alternative is the freaky BMW dome topped buckets like the M5...
