Remember the KE3 (and KE2) chassis are a lot lighter than the KE70. The extra weight in the KE70 would be a huge detriment to the handling of the car, despite the leaf rear end. The front suspension can be converted to be the same anyway.

Another thing to consider is the shape of the floor pan. When there is more vertical rise/fall the stronger the floor pan is in that direction. This will ultimately help chassis strength and gives you lots of options for the roll cage. This combined with the fact that the KE25 is one of the lightest cars from the factory is the reason why my car is a KE25.

Takai: you need to chuck a turbo on the side and go overs racing Not that I am biased or anything Have you considered doing something with the 2.4l hilux motor? Seems to be a lot of interest in these motors in various mags at the moment, but mainly for drag racers.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Yeah, i think the weight woudl be a fairly severe detriment to the IPRA cars. And regarding the KE25 it will probably become my next race car if i decide to go into overs, rather than sticking around in unders. Itll all depend on how fast im going i guess

As long as you get it out there. I'm in the middle of a pretty major rebuild at the moment (re-wire car, new engine, new gearbox, dry sumping) and I'm struggling to keep the attention up to it. Once you get out there though, it is sooo worth it

KE70 was my first idea too, because of the multi link rear but couldn't find a good one ,so i bought the KE30 from the sharp boys & started thinking 3S conversion after seeing their cars, the little car is in such good nick, it does put me in two minds keep it show room stock( does anyone have black interior door handles & stock rim trims for sale) or modernize ,still in the air what to do .cheers for ur interest giving me plenty to chew over. Dave

Getting slightly off topic here, but similar to you im in the middle of a rebuild currently as well. Just finished off the wiring (99% anyway), and am in the process of reassembling everything. Takes so long, and i spent most of today sitting on my butt not doing much because im waiting for shops to open again so i can get fittings and hoses etc, so i definately know what you mean about keeping the attention.

while we are off topic i agree totally ,GT4 wise ive got a new 3" straight thru zorst ,injectors & waste gate to fit,, plus pulled all the interior out & getting rid off surplus loom a/c ,stereo , heater bla bla, so much wire! hard to keep the attention when ur back & fro getting this & that bit & now with the long break. back on track with it tomomo

Trying to get back on topic a little, I've only ever seen photos of a 6speed and its a bit bigger than the 5 speed. Even with the w58 5 speed in the KE25 some minor panel re-shaping has been needed to get it to fit around the firewall but this could easily be avoided by moving the motor a little further forward but I have to fit an i/c and radiator somewhere!

Chris Bailey (who built the car originally) actually came up with a good idea by cutting out the bottom section on the bellhousing with a jigsaw, you can actually remove the gearbox bolts from the bellhousing to get it in and out easier. I think it would be just about impossible without a hoist to do it any other way. The down side is that you weaken the bellhousing a bit and you can't get one bolt into the gearbox.

Other than that, get a custom tailshaft done and you should be a goer

    Cheers,
    Dave
