Question 6 Cyl Engine --> 4 Cyl Tacho Need To Make It Work

    hey guys,

well ive got the 1ggte into the ke70 rebuilt and running well now

latest issue is, i want to keep the stock tacho, however its designed for a 4 cylinder engine, and im getting a 6 cylinder pulse from the mallory ignition system
im wondering if anyone knows how to do this, or knows a product to convert it?
i found one, but at 295 i could just pay someone to steal teddy's custom dash and gauges
i just thought that maybe i could reprint the tacho face thingo with the numbers 2/3rds further round, but i would run out of tacho around the 6000 mark then...not enough hehe
so if anyone has any solutions or ideas im keen to hear them
    cheers, andrew

    Gidday

This has been covered lots - a search will give more options BUT just take your existing tacho to an auto instrument place and they will recalibrate it for a six. I had mine done at Premier Instruments in the ACT some years ago and it cost me all of $30.

Set your car at 1000 rpm and adjust the preset pot inside the tacho for 1000, use an external strobescope (Aircraft engineer).
Close enough and should track. Might have to change capcitor inside depending on crudeness of the tacho. Most Toyta tachos are out about 10% if they are lucky.

Thats why your engines break at the 7000 red line.
