Well it's all over, I dialled up the cams in a non vvt 2jz and tried to set my 2jzvvt-i cams in the same position. The exhaust was close so I left it and fixed the vvt inlet cam so it would not move and set it the same as non vvt. Back to the dyno and ed jza80 was right, doing a back to back test with my 7mge hiace and my 2jz hiace, the 7mge had 10-12 hp more down low until 3000rpm where the tables turned and the 2jz took the lead. The 2jz ended up with 155hp at wheels at 6500 and was still climbing.
It was a scary sight to watch the hiaces doing 190kph on the dyno, no way I would try that on the road

The 7mge has a G55 in it but it ha sonly done 45,000ks, its out of the 2002 SBV that I have installed the 2jz. The original box from the 7mge SBV got noisy at about 200,000ks.
I purchased a brand new G54 for $880.00 and that sits behind the 2jz.

Nice to see some solid numbers, I'm not sure what kind of room you have in the Van, but some breathing mods will yeild even more power, I've got 185HP at the the wheels with only basic breathing mods.

    Great work though

I have installed a set of extractors and was running a K&N pod but I couldn't stand the noise, so now I have installed a Magna TN air box. Are you running a non vvt 2jz?
I feel I could gain more with camshaft positioning but I am looking for more power below 4000rpm.
By the way I have this horrible rattle that appears in the exhaust, at revs, before the muffler that the exhaust man says it is valve train noise. I wish it wasn't there.

Tell me about your engine mods.

Mods are essentially HKS Pod & HKS Kansai extractors, some fancy piping, CAI and airbox.

Yup non VVTi 2JZ-GE, VVTi's in N/A form didn't make it into Supras as far as I know only really in the 97+ IS300's.

No rattly in the exhaust for me, maybe loose heatshielding on the exahust manifold or something down the line?

All the info on my mods and dyno charts etc. can be found here

I put the 7M in my first SBV at 160,000ks and it has now done 290,000. It's had the original box in it since new until 285,000 when I swapped it with the standard box out of my SBV no2, which had only done 40,000ks.
The new box is a Toyota box which I purchased from Rolin Imports and it came originally in a Hilux Workmate RZN147R-TRMDEQ

Well they must be a bloody good copy as I changed the extension housing, main selector arm and gear change mechanism. All fitted perfectly.

    Been doing fuel economy tests.
    Hiace SBV 2400kg's 2RZE - 15lt / 100ks
    " " " 7MGE - 15lt / 100ks
    " " " 2JZGE - 13lt / 100ks
    Highway.
I have always wondered why Toyota put such a crapy little engine in a work Van, when surely they knew it was going to carry weight and the 85kw 2RZ would struggle. Now the 6 cylinder does it with ease. I imagine if they built a 6 cyl specially for low torque and HP it would do even better.

It was probably those same Toyota mental giants that called the hiace with a small bonnet - SBV semi bonneted vehicle - oustanding work.

I should take my van back to toyota and show them how I fixed the fuel economy and lack of power problem.

Interesting. Im going to try and keep the 7M alive for longer, but it feels like fighting a losing battle.

What have you got the 7m in?
If you do upgrade either use a 2jzge vvt-i with factory computer or install a 2jzge non vvt.
