Rather than pull the whole tensioner out and rebuilding it on the bench, can't we just undo the big nut and pull the piston from behind change the 'O' ring and put it back in. Save stuffing around with the circlip, Or am I missing something?

I followed the guide and the job went perfectly. Thanks for doing this, saved me lots of stress.
When I got to CBC the guys say 11mm inside ID? I went errrr yes.
Seems to be keeping the oil in, so I guess that was the correct answer!

Re: GUIDE: Fixing Oil leak in Timing Chain Tensioner ( 18R-G 3T-GTE 2T-G )
sorry pics are missing from my original post guys.... i lost them all with previous web hosting, and cant fnid them on my PC at home
That said though, Fonzy has come to the rescue with pics of the 2TG tensioner!! The 18RG tensioner is quite similar from memory.
NOTE - i did this rebuild back in 2006, and sold the car in 2009.... and it NEVER leaked oil in between that time.... and from what i saw of the pics of my car when it was up for sale recently - it still hadnt leaked.
Hence i think we can safely assume this repair job WORKS.
...... butt scratcher?!

Re: GUIDE: Fixing Oil leak in Timing Chain Tensioner ( 18R-G 3T-GTE 2T-G )
Tried to do this this weekend only to find i've got a different timing chain tensioner to everyone else on this page it seems...
The internal diameter of mine is closer to 15 and the grove less then 1mm.
I have been to cbc, enzed and just about every automotive shop within 30 minutes with absolutley no luck.
can anyone point me in the direction to finding a suitable o-ring? I'm starting to get really frustrated.
I'll upload photos later this afternoon
cheers

Re: GUIDE: Fixing Oil leak in Timing Chain Tensioner ( 18R-G 3T-GTE 2T-G )
Well it seems 15x0.89191 is an impossible to obtain o-ring and with no way to fix mine from leaking in site, I decided buying on new one.
Went to Toyota and the spare parts department, enquired and got the response 'it'll be about $280 and 8 weeks'
Little bit of googling found my way to A website called 'Stewart Wilkins Motorsport' A nissan motorspot company that has parts for 2tg/18rg's.
'Toyota 2TG - Timing Chain Tensioner - Top - Limited Stock ---- Price: $56.20'
So I purchased one and it was in my mail box the next afternoon, free postage aswell, was more then impressed.
I'm yet to install it as my cars currently off getting the Carbies rebuilt, with the leaky timing chain.
But it looks pretty high quality.
cheers, Cameron.

I am rebuilding my old Chain tensioner, but when I opened it, the nylon bushing was completely shattered, I am going to make a new one, but how thick, I know approx 15x11x?? can someone help me on the thickness :-)

My guess would have been about 3mm thick, but if 2mm is original, 2mm it is going to be, Thanks for the fast reply to an old thread... https://www.toymods.org.au/forums/im...ies/tongue.png
