    Default Echo Keyless Entry/Security failure

    Hi There...

Just bought an 01 Echo 3 Door Sportivo privately.

Took it to my local dealer for a full 70,000Klm Service which also included two outstanding recall fixes, the Dimmer stalk and the Oil Seal.

When I delivered the car, everything worked...picked it up and the Keyless entry does not work and the "Security" light on the dash no longer flashes when the car is locked.

Dealer has had the car for three days trying to resolve the issue and now tells me that the ECU needs replacing...$700AUD plus fitting.

Aside from the legal aspect, which I will folow up, has anyone heard of such a fault combination?

On most Toyota factory immobilisers if the battery in the remote goes flat you can disable the security system by leaving the key in the ignition barrel with the ignition on for like half an hour.
When you do this the security light no longer comes on.
Possibly this is what they did.

Anyhow I really fail to see how the keyless entry not working could be the fault of the ECU... Toyota's keyless entry / immobilisers are all seperate modules from what I've seen.
Never have I heard of a Toyota ECU having integrated immob or central locking.

Crap... just checked into this whole integrated immobiliser thing and it appears that for some reason the echo uses the same integrated immobiliser that the Lexus's use.
Another reason I'm glad I own a pre OBD2, pre airbag car.

Normally if the transponders are lost they can be reprogrammed via a special code or via an OBD2 cable... call Toyota head office and tell them neither of your keys work anymore and ask how you can get them programmed back in.
Don't mention anything about the dealer stuffing up otherwise they won't answer your question.
Once you know the answer you can crack it at the dealer for trying to charge you $700++ for reprogramming your keys.

ah.. it's too bad u're in NSW...

i know someone who can reprogram transponder keys..in Victoria though.. i don't think the remote has batteries ..

u should sue their asses.. then again AUD 700 for a new ECU is cheap.. i doubt it will fix your key problem though.. as per what Toobs has said.. i vote reprogram

If what you guys are saying is true about it having nothing to do with the ecu then I would suggest making a very big scene at the dealership..Make sure there are as many customers around as possible and also have your facts straight and blast the ****! Im dead set sick of these scum bags over charging and replacing shit that doesnt need to be fixed...I just put my Vito van into Mercedes the other week only to have them charge me 1650 for a service...$280 for a set of 3 wipers I told the fuckwit where to go in a big way and dragged him over the coals for 30 mins...If I wasnt getting re-imbursed by the company I seriously would have cracked the dickhead for ripping me off...Im sick of it!

    Good luck anyways man...

    UPDATE:

The Service Manager called me, after an employee read my post here and recognised my car!.....

He said he was not aware of my situation and had been kept out of the loop.

He said he will fix the problem whatever it takes AND, I need to replace a front L/H strut so he said he would do that free of charge AND replace all service parts including Irdium plugs, filters etc.

Thanks for your help guys......TOOBS.....the half hour with the ignition on is what did it.
