Default Converting an ST141 in to an RT141

    Hi Guys,

I did a search but couldnt find anything specific. Let me know if I missed something.

One of the guys here at work has an ST141 wagon which has more problems than I can be bothered dealing with (timing belt, water pump, head gasket, ignition leads, blah...)

I know where there is an 18RC (from an RA28) lying around that would do the job but am unsure what needs to be changed to make the R series engine fit.

I would assume that I need a crossmember and bellhousing at the very least. Is there anything else that needs to be changed?

What can I expect to pay for the parts to do such a conversion? This needs to be cheap!

    Labour isnt really an issue.

    Thanks,
    Terry

Um the 18rc would be worse then the 2sc, why wouldn't you do a 22re conversion, buy rusted out RT142 for 200 bob if that and change everything over.

Or just find another 2sc and drop it in
    If in doubt power out

Because I have an 18rc sitting there.

That said if you can find me a RT142 for bugger all I might be interested!

I only clicked this cause you cant see the whole name and i thought it read "Converting an ST141 in to an GT141"...
But anyway, dont go the 18R-C, its the worst, either 22R-E from the celica/corona, or a 21R-C from the RA60 celica. 21R-C over the 22R-E if you dont want to have to do heaps of wiring and efi pump etc, although if u got a full 22R-E rona ud get everything u need, including less weight with your live axel.

EDIT: But ANYTHING is better than a Starfire!

please .. think of the children ... don't make your life any worse - bin the 18RC and put a proper motor (one with a crossflow head and EFI) in its place.

Is it engineerable/legal to convert a car chassis with an engine that is older then the car?

The legality is not in question here.

I just need to know what I need in order to do it
