But if people dont like the off topic sections or chatty threads why do they still go and read them? you dont HAVE to read every single thread on here and if all you are interested in is tech talk then it is very easy to find those threads and participate.

price aside rona, that starts producing a secular forum environment - which isnt what we want to foster...

as ive said a million times, want to watch funny videos, go straight to youtube, then chat about it on PF.com

Without the general chat type threads though is toymods going to lose alot of what makes it so good now? As it stands members can come and either just be sociable with people they might never meet or get the answer they need to fix their car..although you can see the goodness in people in the fact that they are so willing to give over their own time to help fix your car I think something will be lost with it being a tech only forum. Making someone laugh or just talking teh p00 creates a good community feel..like getting tgether with a bunch of mates and telling funny stories.

Not necesarily, as the club is trying to foster more technical knowledge and those people will still come to the forums. If you just want to come for a chit-chat about irrelevant stuff then, as mentioned, there's plenty of other forums about where you can do this.

Actually, to save these sort of arguments, save bandwidth and save extensive moderation there's no reason why the Non-Car Discussion section can't be shut down. Those that still talk and walk Toyota will remain, those that don't will move along.

Of course, this means at Toyota Fest we can't have a jumping castle, face painting, fairy floss or a mime artist.

    What about the pony rides?

Will we really have to rely on the 'ponies' the cars produce?

    Oh, the pain...

We can't have a jumping castle anyway - you need a $20million public liability insurance policy, and the Toymods policy is only $10million.

... but I digress, and so does this topic.

I'd be happy if non-car discussion was closed down, but I would not be happy with the aftermarth of bullshit spilling into the rest of the [currently clean] sections.

For what it is worth, I don't think there is a need to remove the Non-car Discussion section as the current rules in place are fine. Ppl should just stop their bitching

i agree with both of you. there is NO NEED for non-car discussion, except for those people who are the ones that would post crap in the other sections if it were removed.

if a vote comes up, i vote close and then ban people who continue to post crap in other sections

Its probably gone to far to get rid of it now, to many people set in their ways of wanting to have random threads. I dont see any problems with the general section as long as long as the rules are adheared to and the threads in there are actual conversations.
