Question Can someone tell me what this slide on my seat does?

I'm a bit puzzled by this part, although I'm told that all the earlier Celica's have them and some Camry's as well...

This is the part in question. They're installed on both of my ST162 seats, and the rear of it (the bolthole) bolts up to the transmission tunnel and the cover goes over it. Now I see no reason why a slide needs to be installed on these seats, when the roller-mechanism does the job just fine. Can anyone give me a definitive answer on why these are installed on my seats and what they do?

    Thanks in advance.

uhhh, don't think so... I think Toyota would have devised a different plan for something like that, maybe something simpler, instead of having a plastic slide with a big fukoff bolt through the tranny tunnel.

Uh, thats the seatbelt reinforcement slide. It will slot through the seatbelt mounting point on the seat rail and in case of an accident will add a lot of anchorage for the clip mount in the vertical direction.

Kinda useful if you like your seatbelt staying on in an accy.

Sounds plausible, but I'm just wondering what the second little hole at the end of it would do... is that like a screw point or something? Also the mount is metal, but the slide is plastic... what's the story with that? If it's a reinforcement then why wouldn't it be just metal?

by the look of it the bolt cover is plastick and the slide{ long with two holes} is metal!
The secound hole would be for a locator or by the look of it counter sunk screw!
without seeing it in person its hard to tell.

Its a rivet so that it cant fall out at the extent of seat travel. To remove the slide you have to pull up on it slightly before taking it out.

Also, its all metal, its just covered in a thin layer of plastic to make it seem more like plastic.
