have you got a picture of the seat fully covered, i'm jsut curious which location that is.
does anyone know how to fix the side leg supports that collapse after a while?
Cheers
Ok, this is my first attempt at doing a fix thread.
The other day I had the pleasure of fixing a bucket seat that had collapsed. (no not mine).
As you can see in the first photo I've fully dissmantled the seat base.
As you can see in this photo the back support bracket is spot welded to the seat base.
You can see where the base has torn over time.
Leaving the temp bolts in place to hold every thing in place I cleaned everything up ready to be fixed.
Firstly just tacking every thing in place so not to burn holes in everything. Sorry I forgot to take photos of that part. Then completely welding where the bracket fits to the base. As in the two potos below.
Then I used a small amount of etch primmer and some top coat that my young bloke had in his garage to finish of the job.
Reassemble your seat and fit it back in your car.
Time taken for the repair about 2 hours, now this works out a lot cheaper & easier then replacing the seat if it's an older model car.
If it feels good "DO IT" Unless it harms others.(or upsets the RTA)
Enjoy what you have To Day,cause you can't take it with you.

Great post Ray, very descriptive and well-illustrated. I had a problem like that in the passenger seat of my first car, and I had to get it repaired by a shop. In this you can actually see what gets done and how.Great DIY for those with the tools available for the job.
Great job Ray and thanks. It feels even better then before it broke.![]()
Cheers, Greg.

Nice job Ray.
I'm trying to do somehting similar but I want to add extra metal pieces (then foam) into my seat as side bolsters so I can leave the original seats, but have them more supportive (18 years of butts dragging across tends to make the foam collapse)
That shouldn't be to hard to do Steve, the hardest part would be getting the cover to fit back properly, so it looks neat.

My seats have a material centre, with vinyl (currently torn & in need of repair) over the now squashed side bolsters.
I agree. It shouldn't be hard, it's just getting it done& then getting new foam put around it.
thanks for the pic hi-ace
wagonist, i too need to rebuild my side bolsters one day (i use st185 seats) . luckily they're not too high, imgaine if they were full bucket sides![]()
which foam are you planning on using?
When it comes to actual fabric trimming and bolstering, i'm going to leave that to the professionals!! Little Trimmer in Castle Hill gets many good reports
As for fixing up the metal part, that's something i can now do thanks to this thread!
Great thread Ray - rep + 1![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
I'll be leaving th whole seat repair upto someone else.
I can't sew & I can't weld. & figuring out how to cut the foam, well that's professionally territory too.
i was wanting the bench seat in my Crown retrimmed and i went to the Little Trimmer at Castle Hill... they came up with a quote of $300 for the whole bottom to be retrimmed and refoamed etc... theyre a good place to go to as i have mates who have had work done there and are very happy with the quality etc...
