    Default 18RG oil pump driveshaft

I'm hoping one of the 18RG gods can help me out here.

My carbys aren't getting any fuel, so I took the mechanical fuel pump off to have a squiz and noticed that there doesn't appear to be a cam there for the pump. Another oil pump driveshaft I have lying around has the cam on it so I was wondering whether the 18RGEU's were released with a different oilpump driveshaft to the 18RG/U's.

I think I may need to look at installing an electric pump as I don't really want to have to pull the engine apart to check the oil pump driveshaft. Any ideas?

    Cheers

If the short engine that you are using is an 18RGE, then I would say this is very likely your issue (as they used an elctric EFI pump).

This is a problem. And based on that, the engine has never been started.

    This will fix the problem.

Now that is an idea. It seems straight forward, one or the other.

Sorry that I cannot be of more help, but it seems that you have answered it.

210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

More shocking luck... Correct, the 18RGEU pump drives have no cam! This is what my engine has, along with a factory 18RGEU blanking plate. Your best option is to hook up an electric fuel pump for even flow and pressure. Your engine will thank you! If you can't track down a blanking plate, just leave the mech fuel pump sitting there. It's not as if it'll cause any harm.

You can also make a blanking plate out of some aluminium plate and make a cork or paper gasket to suit. This is what I did when I converted my 18R-G to an efi 18R-GE.

I would also agree with running an electric fuel pump over a mechanical one. It will save you lots of effort by NOT having to strip down the engine!

Thanks guys, just as I thought + rep for you. Electric pump has been bought and installed and works beautifully.

Now to find out why my rear most carby (which has recently been rebuilt) has fuel leaking out the top.

maybe you have too much fuel pressure...
did you get a low pressure pump? for carbs you should only need to have about 3-4psi at the most. you may need to get a small fuel regulator.
