    Simon,

write this point down for the next meeting 'ol scribe.

I'm with ed. Just a video link and 'wow' or 'how cool is this' is going to earn a lock -> delete from me.

I think someone posted a thread the other day, link to youtube about ground effects russian secret aircraft, but at least possed a question (well maybe with the help of river) to encourage a discussion on the topic. Otherwise the thread looks like:

    www.youtube.com/funnylink/ronainbedwithaman.mpeg
    check this out!

    ha!

    Wow!

    thats so funny!

    rona = owned!

awesome! i cant beleive rona did that with his tounge!

    etc.

There is no merit to this conversation, although it may be amusing, and im one of the first to say it just may be amusing, however we (as a club) can no longer afford to pay for the bandwidth of the threads which are all but useless to the runnings of the club.

An idea ive come up with, if we think that the topic will not got searched in the future, could this be grounds for locking? The idea afterall, is to have an archive of searchable information for future reference.

    Is that Possible Rob?

To remove the rep ability in Non Car would be good, however for newbees their abiltiy to gain rep would be harder.?!?

    Cheers

    Dong

Yeah I'll Note that down. It does make sense.

No disscussion, No searchable info..... Delete Sounds like a reasonable "line" to create.

i dont understand the 'toymods cant afford the bandwidth' part?

how is a few bytes of typing using up badwidth?

What about loading the page, the graphics on each page, banner ads etc.

Its not just one thread, if we let it go for a year it will add up to hundreds and possibly thousands of threads. This will in turn hit the bandwidth everytime one of these pages is viewed by a user in all these threads.

Also remember for every 10 posts there is about 100 views of almost any thread.

Currently there are 4,018 forum members and a significant less number of financial members. I understand being a financial member you have an input into how things are operated, but so far we have less than 10 people complaining about this lock and delete of interweb threads.

Or in a more explicit description, that is 0.002% of all users.

I think the "can't afford" reason is invalid and don't want to hear it again. lol 'dya hear!?

Anyone been to a club meeting recently?

I think it's a question of content and quality and all the other things we've been talking about here.

well if someone is passionate about this topic it can always be discussed tomorrow night, might be a good idea or not.. but yeah i think it would be better face to face rather than over the net.

That is the intent of the monthly meetings for people to find out what is happening and to voice opinions.

I know you can "prune" various sections of forum, so just do it to the non-car discussion forum for say everything older than 6months to 1 year.

It can be done for posts that haven't had a reply in 'x' days or even posts with more or less 'x' posts

Not sure if mods can access it, but admin can. However permissions are easily changed
I have been pruned by old man river!!!!!

But what about if the information is useful and people want to be able to search for it a year later.

Thats why we should keep the good stuff and bin the trash, future reference.

sorry thats what i was talking about i just forgot to mention it haha but yes thats exactly the point, if you feel that the issue needs to be thoroughly explored and discussed, the monthly meetings is the place to be.

I often wonder if these people are simply trying to milk rep, by pretending to contribute, get peoples attention and provide entertainment.
