If these "look what I found" threads aren't allowed but you still want to share silly things, then why not just put the YouTube links etc in your sig for a week or so? That way you can always provide funny things for people to click on, and you aren't really wasting bandwidth by starting a new thread each time you find something new..

I dunno if this has been suggested or not but would it be possible to lock an area of the forum weather it be the non car discussion or another sub forum off it to anyone without say 30 rep or if they havent been part of the forum for X amout of time.

good idea, and also by not enableing the giving of rep for posts in non-car discussion forums (and maybe other sections) would encourage people to;

1\ not post crap to get rep

2\ post mor etoymods relevant posts

The other side of no rep though is no neg rep, so either more work for admins (people posting stuff with no consequences) or make it non car discussion you can only lose rep. That way if people continue to post rubbish they can still be punished easily.

It could still be made that people with rep over say 400 can still deliver neg rep and if people know that they might think twice about posting total crap.

I dont think the word punish is a good word to use, I have noticed it being used in a few other convo's about using rep, this is a social club not a school.

Why not? You gain rep by making productive/useful posts, you lose it by making irritating/pointless posts. If it isn't reward/punishment, what is it?

personally, i report a lot of teh intahnet threads, as the repeated posters are well aware, and if the thread is inappropriate i neg rep as well..
typically tho, if the thread is harmless, it is someones first intahnet thread, or something good comes out of it (compared to the aforementioned example) i let it slide. if it is a person that continues to post crap they found on the net (what i think is crap), then i will begin to report and rep them.
funny thing is, it usually doesn't deter the people that most need to be deterred
(i am only explaining what i think about it because of the criticism i continually receive )

anyway, some things i DO find funny... but that doesn't make toymods the appropriate place.. honestly, if you want random intahnet crap with friendly banter, go join Performance Forums. if you post funny stuff it will be well received, if you post crap, you will get flamed for pages... but i'm not sure exactly what the new forum owner thinks of the bandwidth he is paying for.... (you can look thru threads there to find out )

as for rep.. it is not just rep.. it is "reputation". for example (from an intahnet thread).. if you met someone at a party and they started showing you photos/video of a dog rooting and then throwing up.... what would you think? i certainly wouldn't think they are a better person because of it ie, their reputation would fall in my eyes.

as Ed said, there are whole sites.. many of them.. dedicated to content of "look what i found on teh intahnet" type threads... youtube, orsm, google video, and whatever other ones people seem to mention often...

if your experience on toymods will be so much worse for not having those threads, then you are here for the wrong reasons.(imho, and it is just that)

perhaps the persistant crap posters could contact each other by MSN and share crap there??? (but that requires effort ), or you could join one of the other forums around, create a single thread for this kind of thing.. and only visit that forum for that thread... since it doesn't actually matter where the thread is

if neg rep from old rolla doesnt have any effect wait a couple of weeks till when u have infinity rep, you cant be that far from it. how much do you lose when u get -reped from some one with infinity rep?
