Yes, I remember your arguments, however according to the numerous EPC I have both the W50 and the P51 are given the same casing numbers - which indicates they are externally identical - this includs the extension housing and the bell housing.Originally Posted by The Witzl
The W50/P51 changed shape (I think Aug 73) - before this date they were identical, and after this date they were identical. That is, both the W50 and the P51 have always used the same external casing.

Found a W50 gearbox with part number 33111-20091
all P51's are 33111-20090

The extension housing and bearings are all W5 series no P51 discrimination, all the same.
The difference in the P51 is basically what is mounted on the main shaft.
if you look with care in the oil hole you can see the differences.
