take it to a pro if u have nfi what to do
anyway its only an 18rgeu
hehehe
go aftermarket ecu much easier to understand
So im missing a fuel relay?Originally Posted by WDE_BDY

auto electrics wanted $1,000 to rewire it...
i opened up the ecu, all pinouts are the same as this diagram

pull loom out.
thats too big a mess to work with.
via your wiring diagrams you need to rebuild the loom. ie run wire from ecu pin to
what ever component its meant to go too. add in relays and fuses as per diagram.
solder and heat shrink proper joins instead of that woefull screw conector, and
finally tape and wrap loom neatly.
You wont regret it at all. Setting it up in the engine bay will let you get the wire lengths
correct.

Agree with all of the above, cut off all the connectors and build a new loom from scratch.
This thread is a little emarassing, the loom pictured above is my handiwork from ~10 years ago. Give me a break though, it was my first attempt at EFI wiring and I only had a 5M-E diagram to work from!![]()

ok so if i do that theres a few questions:
this is the wiring diagram.
heres my diagram + my noob questions
- Can i reuse the relays i already have?
- where does the + from the coil run to?
- what does the E2 pinout do
- What are the cold start items?
- Can Vb be ran straight to the ECU pinout or foes it have to run off the +B line?
- What is the SPD, as theres no correlating pinout on the ECU?
- Are the main relays already in the original loom?
- Whats the starter solenoid?
Cheers,
Bryce
1 - should be fine tooOriginally Posted by Spectre
2 -
3 - should just be an earth
4 -
5 - I would follow the diagram, just provides power to AFM
6 - ignore, just for speed cut on some models
7 -
8 - The solenoid is just effectively a switch on the starter motor, there will be the big cable to the starter and also spade terminal which is the solenoid connection
so +B and Vb are both 12V power feed lines?
Also, the Starter Aux Relay, how do I know which plugs go where into the relay?
feck off that starter AUX relay.
You should run a separate line for Vb direct from ECU to AFM, not connected to B+, as this should be a stable voltage source for the AFM.
I'll draw up a diagram later... just give me some time.
Oh - and i hope to have my megasquirt fitted by end of the month. NOTE - hope.
...... butt scratcher?!
I diagram that actually has exactly whats needed to wire up a new loom would be fantastic. I cant wait till the end of the month unfortuantly, as I need this one back up and running asap.Originally Posted by The Witzl

1. Yes if the are still working and match the number of pins etc needed.
2. Possibly direct to the battery and maybe through a fuse. It may be that the coil is turn on and off by a negative signal from the ecu but im not sure on this.
3. E2 and E1 would provide an earth to other components. ie sensors etc.
4. Control cold starting the car...a single injector adds more fuel to help start the car.
5. Vb - id run as shown ... looks like ecu controls AFM power...direct to battery would have it on all the time of without fused control (read: dangerous)
6. SPD would be the speed sensor ? does the ecu need it? guage runs off gbox i know that much.
7. probably
8. starter motor (is technically a solenoid)
red: yes
blue: see 6.
green: see 2.
aqua: not really. its a theft prevention thingy. fuel relay should kill the fuel etc in an accident.
mustard: this relay is what activates coil / pump / starter when you turn the key on.
orange: starter motor - on gearbox
purple: from memory its in the drivers footwell behind the kick panel.
black: eco power of some sort. if the pin isnt there then i guess the wire isnt needed?
grey: injector in lower part of intake manifold. controller in block will prob be a screw in looking sensor with two wires. the body of it will earth to the block most likely.
This is my understanding at least so dont take it for gospel.![]()
hope it helps

The coil would be wired as normal,
Power from ignition switch to coil+
Coil- to distributor and also to the ecu.
The coil- input to the ecu is just a tacho signal for the ecu so it knows what RPM the engine is doing.

Updated 15/7/2007............ yes, I need to pull my finger out.
Once I have The Witzl's wiring diagram, ill pull the loom out and take a stab at remaking the entire loom.
Any tips on how to read relays? they have a diagram on them, but how does this correspond to the pins on the bottom?
two pins act as the switch..ie current from pin 1 to pin 2 lets the signal flow between 3 & 4. without 1 & 2 powered - 3 & 4 dont connect.
if ya get me![]()
